Should go lower than 20. You just won't hear it. Do you know what the specs on the speakers are?
Thats the thing about a ported enclosure. If you play lower than the cabinet is configured for, it will damage the sub. I have a tester module hooked up to my PC that measures all T/S parameters (factory specs can be off up to 10%). I then have another software set up that will give me several scenerios of how to tune the box. Changing the port as little as 1" can have big impact.

i have never heard that before -playing lower etc- and im on a audio forum. if that were true subwoofer boxes which are normally in the mid to low 30hz range would be fucking up speakers all day when they play lower notes. so i say ur statement is not true at all. i can get references from installers if need be

I was an installer, and what Bigevil said is true. A tuned port box is designed to play well down to the tuning frequency. If you don't have a subsonic filter somewhere inline and you send the box a signal below it's tuned frequency the driver will "unload" (in other words, there will no longer be any air resistance to keep it from moving back and forth wildly), and the result will sound like a giant fart. If you do this for any length of time it will overextend the voice coil, locking it up and most likely burning it up.

Sealed boxes don't have the same problem because there is always a sealed chamber of air behind the speaker that keeps it from travelling too far. You can still blow up a speaker in a sealed chamber, but it takes a shitload more power to do it.

        See "limitations", on this page:

          Thx R U INJRD,
I couldn't have said it better.
I have redirected my attention lately with the car torn up and covered with tape and paper for paint prep (I'll post pics soon in projects section). My focus has been on recovering the door panels. I am using a black suede (fake) and a black marble insert. I think I will be lucky enough to reuse the 38 year old wood panel.

dAMN, Those are huge. I have 4 15's here that are going in mine. First I need a bigger alternator, some extra batteries, 0 guage wire etc etc... gonna be a while. Mine are only gonna be in 2.5 ft sealed space each.
