Thank you for enlightening me on this subject. I think I have alot more things to learn on the whole hearse community. But, I am catching on.

              Coffins and caskets

Like was mentioned, a coffin is 6 or 8 sided, your traditional coffin shape also known as Elipsoidal. Caskets are retangular. Trivia of the day.

For other great Halloween projects check this site out...

Lots of neat stuff on there, some of its kinda corny but lots of great info.

Yup, built one for a Halloween prop. Wouldn't hold a human's weight, but it held the ghoul prop.

3/4" plywood and lotsa wood screws, it'll hold a body!
I used metal strapping on the inside and covered it up with red velvet fabric and it worked well on Halloween night. We cut an iron cross in the lid, covered it with black mesh from the inside, and my son jumped out of it all night scaring the crap outta people...His crowning glory was having an adult swear at him!
I think that I adapted one that I saw on the monsterlist link. Lotsa other good Halloween ideas on there as well; just warp'e,m to fit your project...

Ryan, I have built many coffins and caskets, all wood construction and very nice, even if I have to say so myself...lol Sold several burial ones. Elvira has her very own solid golden oak toe pincher, linned in cream satin and with hand carved filagree. Of course they are not cheep to build, I use all hard woods and factory handels and hinges, average bare bones display model cost is about $1,000 plus shipping....

Just going over the subjects - Ken and I have built a few for haunted houses. We built a toe pincher coffin as a bookcase and have it in our living room.

Damn. Nicole, I was just in HollyWood about 3 weeks ago. I met a gentleman at the Art Musuem in Ft Lauderdale who knew you from the Chrysler Car Club.

Small world If you're in town again, gimme a shout. I used to be in the Chrysler Car club (good people). Once I get my Chrysler New Yorker in driveable condition, I'll rejoin their group.
