  • The story so far - Bela teh hearse

    OK the story so far.

I went through hell trying to purchase this hearse. I should of looked around more. Bela is a 1974 M/M Landeau funeral Coach. It has a 501 engine under the hood. The past owner said she loved this hearse, but as I get into making a list of things to fix, I am not so sure.

First off, when I bought it the hearse had the rollers and slab takenn out half way. The original owners thought it would be cool to put seats in the back. Ok fine and dandy except they never saved teh original inside.

The doors sit funny allowing water to get in the vehicle, the driver side latch was turned in so it would not shut properly. This made a interesting ride home. I got the latch fixed recently however. With the moisture and other weathering agents getting in tthe car teh area they were making the seats go was starting to rust, the floorboard of the passenger side carpet was rotted out and when it came out there was rust everywhere.

Exterior there is A LOT of rust and rusted off steel. So alot of sanding, Bondo, and welding pieces on is in order. I have to find cheap ways of doing this seeing I am both trying to pay rent and utilities as well as a Tattoo aprenticeship.

She could use fresh tires and the air neeeds to be bled for the brake lines. This also made a interesting ride home.

I have alot of ideas for the inside and outside however. I will list them in the near future. I am thinking a red adn black interior.

Even though the vehicle is in arough state I love it. I named it Bela, for Bela Lugosi. I am just trying to raise it from its hell like state.

It will be a Undead one.

I'm taking it you got the "501" off of the sticker on the radiator core support. Look under that number, in smaller numbers it will tell you the actual size of your engine. It will either read "472 ci." or "500 ci.". Most 74's were 472's unless someone switched it out. 75 and 76 saw more of the 500 ci. motors.

Welcome to the wonderful world of coach ownership & restoration! So many of them met the same fate as yours, someone with BIG ideas tears out the rear floor, throws everything away, lets it sit neglected, then wants to sell it
