  • Looking for a windshield for a Caddy 65-71?

For those of you who don't know me yet, my daytime job is at Safelite Auto Glass. I repair windshields. I had some time today and looked up the windshield for a 66-68 Cadillac Fleetwood Commercial Series (Ambulance/Hearse). This is what I found.

Your part number will be DW00661GBN.

Safelite Auto Glass has it in stock and it is READILY available.
Your INSTALLED price is $217.95 plus tax.

Safelite offers a FREE mobile replacement and repair service. It's the same cost if you take it into our shop. So for those of you guys who don't have your coach running, or you just want them to come to you, no biggy.
Safelite is nationwide, like I said before. If there isn't a Safelite near you or that doesn't have mobile dispatch that goes to you, look up the following companies. These guys are owned by BELRON, who owns Safelite. It will be through the same warehouse and the price will be the same. The affiliated companies are: Cindy Rowe, Elite Glass, Auto Glass Specialists, Triumph, Harmon, and Diamond. I know there are other companies out there that BELRON owns but the buyout was so recent, I can't remember.

Also, Safelite can get new glass for any coach. Windshields are in stock, but the side glass and back glass is manufactured in another facility and is not kept in stock. It just takes them a couple of weeks to get it in.

    Hope the info helps.

So now I know I can have my glass replaced if cracked, what about the trim? These old cars have clips to hold the trim down. Can I trust my local Safelite to be able to do the job on the first visit without telling me I need to order clips to reinstall the trim? I'm not being a smart ass, I'm just getting ready in case I need it done. Having free glass replacement is nice. I'm in Arizona

I don't think you are being a smart ass. It's your car, parts are hard to find and more expensive than a regulare car. I'm the same way. As for free mobile service, yeah it is nice. Most of my jobs are at my customer's jobs in their parking lots. Our techs are trained on classics as well. If we carry the glass, we know how to install it properly. The metal "trim" is the molding. We reuse that unless our tech breaks it.... which doesn't happen very often. Then, we're responsible for replacing it at our own expense. There should be a Safelite in AZ. Check out our website for all locations. www.safelite.com

Thank you for the comfort of knowing I can just call your company for replacement glass. I drive my coach everywhere and have several windshields destroyed by rocks out here. Thanks!

The internet is often hard to convey emotion and sarcasm. I hope you are not being sarcastic. If you are being serious, You are most certainly welcome. I have heard from my customers that are from AZ(mostly military people at Offut AFB), that AZ gets a lot of rock chips. Isn't there a zero deductible on windshield replacement? I heard about that, but not too sure.

I am honestly not trying to push Safelite. I'm not seeing anything for it. I just want to help you guys out. I know how hard it is to find parts for coaches. It's a pain in the ass.

Okay, here's the tough one... How about 59-64 Commercial Windshields?

I will check on it in the morning. I'm sure it can be done. I'll even try to get a part number and price.

What about a commercial windshield for 71-76? All I have heard is it's around $650 just for the windshield, not installed.

It'll be about the same price installed. Roughly $200 plus tax or so. And that is the installed price. I dont know where you are getting the quote from, but they are ripping people off. That's outrageous! I'll get a part number for you if you like. Just send me a private message (so I have it all in my inbox for when I take notes in the morning so I can look it up in the computer). I need to know Make, Model and year.
                  Example: 1974 Chevrolet Caprice
You get the idea. I still don't understand how these other companies can get by ripping people off on glass. That is obsurd. I see a lot of it with smaller shops. They feel that they can rip off their customers and tell them their windshield is "hard to find" and will be very expensive and they are actually the only one in town that has it in stock. Good example of something that happened to me last year. I can't remember the Model, but it was a 2005 Lexus Convertible 2 dr. Had a rain sensor, chrom. dimmer, heated w/s..etc. I went to repair it (after warning the customer it would most likely split due to the severity of the break), it cracked out. She told me that she had replaced her windshield through Lexus the previous year and it cost her over $1800. We were able to get it for her for under $300. Same glass. Go figure.

Still working on that one. We have a couple of leads in the East Coast and Safelite in FL is checking its warehouse. I did get a part number, it is DW00570. So, it does exist. It is in our National inventory somewhere. The price that our computer gives us is $230.95 installed. It's just finding it. Some of the older pieces (stuff that has LOTS of dust on it in the warehouse) are a bit harder to pull up on our computers. They've been there so long, they've practically been forgotten and lost in the system. As soon as I find out where we have the glass, I will let you know. Oh, and 59-65 is the same part. I even checked with PGW (another auto glass supplier that we deal with when we are out) and they verified it in their system that it is the same piece of glass.
Once I know, like I said, I'll post it.

I got your prices and part numbers. In stock in Omaha, NE. 1971-1973 with antenna is DW00781 and it is $232.95 plus tax installed.
1974-1976 is DW00811 without antenna and is the same price, also in stock.

I'm not looking forward to the free-for-all scramble this will cause if there are only a few pieces left (or one). If it puts me near the front for consideration, I have 2 1961's that need a windshield...

I'm sure there will be a mad dash. lol. But I am sure there are more than just a couple left. I'll be sure to call the cops out here and tell them to barricade Safelite from raiders with hearses. lol

Sadly, the DW661GBN doesn't fit my '66 Caddie S&S...it's too small. But I still have hopes of finding a w/s that isn't gonna cost me $1000 or more (So far, one was $930 and another was $1075, so maybe I am kidding myself?)

Still not having any luck finding a w/s less than $930 (uninstalled). The cracked one is beginning to look a lot better these days!
