  • carved: x3?

Over a year in the works to get an invite and it looks like Monday 3/23 is finally the day.

An elderly man has a decent size car collection (50+). At least 3 of them are hearses. More specifically, the 3 mentioned are allegedly carved coaches from the '30s-'40s in original condition. Better? They're for sale. Best? They're for sale reasonably.

Too far for me to make it on Monday but I'm sending a trusted friend. I expect texted images immediately to identify and full photo sets later on. If you'd like to be on an email list for info dispersion as it is received, chime in.

This collector doesn't have any junk. Nothing incomplete or rusty to my knowledge - which equates to having promise.

      I know, right..?

      1 is a '39 Cadillac. 1 is early '40s - all that I have at this point.

Shouldn't be too hard to find 3 willing parties so we can get them out of there. Simple.

Perhaps I should have known better than to attach a firm date? Heh.

The owner is 85. He's the one we spoke with. He also hasn't been available for the duration of time needed to make the drive worthwhile - but his son is.

So now we wait on a day to day basis as to when the father can spend the day going over the collection as opposed to dealing with the son as the prices will rise.

Of course updates as soon as they arrive.

Perfect example of the lackadaisical pace prevalent in Mexico...

At any rate, I think my friend is finally seeing these today. I no longer believe that all three are carved. Been able to figure out from descriptions so far that one is a '41 Cadillac and one is a '48 Chevrolet. I'll stop just shy of saying that I'll have pics soon. Heh.

Carved coaches were GONE. Who knows when they sold. There were far more vehicles overall than anticipated - and there were other coaches outside. Not worth shipping unfortunately as they were little more than parts cars. These included the '41 Caddy and '48 Chevy.

However, a restorable '51 Chrysler combination is sitting there waiting to be plucked.

Sucks that what remains here is in such poor condition. Makes me believe that some of the other carved coaches that have turned up the last couple years in Mexico have come from this same yard.

Don't know much about this one. Given the suicide doors it must have been a combo at least, not a station wagon. Hope someone gives this another chance @ life given the rarity.

Retrieved my home computer from a tech today after nearly a two week absence. Figures the pics were in it~
