  • 59' M&M in Hemmings

Found a 59' Miller Meteor listes in the Cadillac section of the newest issue of Hemmings Motor News Magazine.
Ad doesn't say much other than "restoration started, unable to finish, $2500...."
It seems to be in Indiana,....anyone know anything about it......?

Just thought I'd mention it should anyone be interested.

Sold a couple weeks ago - to someone on this board.

Love love *love* the irony in this combo somehow floating right past Ecto forums. How many people grovel for one exactly..? Hilarious.

Purely on a whim did I discover this car. I went to hemmings looking for the Ecto 1A replica ad, only to discover this bad boy....needless to say the money was in the seller's hands 14 hours after I noticed it And yes Atti, oh the irony!

Here are some more (year and a half old) pics:

I'll post more pictures once I go to pick it up. I'm picking up the small stuff (read everything except the car) on monday...then in another week or so will pick up the body. It's good times!

Don't worry Atti. I know the Ghostbusters community wouldn't let one of these pass by and not try and snatch it up to turn it into the one thing most Procar enthusiasts hate the most.....an Ecto-1 replica lol

        That's what I did.

            More power to you!

I personally have nothing against Ecto-1 or any modified coach. I enjoy seeing cars that are not half-assed however. In my mind, any further new Ecto conversions are a waste. Love Ecto? Save money and buy that coach. Can't pry any of the movie cars loose? Then buy another Ghostbuster fanatic's unfinished attempt - because at the end of the day, you'll STILL own something uber-cheesy and overdone. (Dean Newman is the exception to this rule, as his was properly completed.) How many times have we seen a '70 Ecto, a '62 Ecto, a '59 Superior Ecto, a poorly executed '59 MM Ecto, etc..? The stigma of it ultimately being another lame replica transcends the coach being a '59 MM Duplex. There are sooo0Oo many of them out there already!

'50s coaches in general are great platforms for mild kustoms and a '59 MM Duplex is no exception. Such a coach with a little vision could be FAR more impressive completed while being representative of yourself at the same time - if you didn't want to go the stock route. I equate those wanting Ecto replicas to those kids in high school that waited to see what others wore so they knew how to leave the house.

A sheep driving a clone - poetically befitting, isn't it?

Hope you don't take this personally as it is not intended as such. '59 MM aesthetics deserve more and you do to.

Not at all man, I see your points. The only problem regarding the Ecto-1 is that Sony isn't selling. They were just letting them decay in a back lot and in storage and didn't really seem to care about them, but wouldn't sell them either. The 25th anniversary (2009) and the release of GB on Blu-ray coupled with the June release of the new video game seemed to rekindle Sony's spark and have them restore both of them. The Ecto-1, as you know, is finished. The Ecto-1A is still getting it's make over.

In my particular case, I've just always been a huge gb fan. When the opportunity presented itself to purchase the exact, correct make and model, I asked the wife, she was cool with this long term investment and I bought it.

The only choice fans have is to hunt, what seems to be, a hard to find vehicle, or do something with what they can find. I understand your point about converting 60s, 70s, 80s and the like procars into Ecto replicas. But at least in some way, for me, it's nice to see people still interested in a 20+ year movie franchise that has brought them joy, introduced them to new friends, and perhaps even aided them in giving back to the community through charity work. (Those are my intentions too)

I really want to do this restoration and conversion right. To do it right, obviously costs lots and lots of money. That's why this is a VERY long term project for me, and I'm ok with that. In addition, I'm collecting the exact pieces I need to make it into an Ecto-1, which is a hunt in its own right.

I love Procars, always have. I was in EMS for several years, paid and volunteer and I've always had an appreciation and fascination with them, old and new. I have to say, that I love being on here and looking at what everyone is doing and all the different cars everyone owns.

I guess one additional way to look at it, would be that at least the vehicles that get restoration into half-ass Ecto clones, got restored at all and not sent to a crusher or left to rot and waste away in some field. And even with an Ecto clone (as with most things), conversations are reversible with enough money, so the vehicle is never lost once it's done.

Yes sir. According to my tracking number, they should be in my hands tomorrow (5/8). I have to pull a 12hr shift tomorrow, but when I get home in the evening, I'll snap some pictures and PM you on the other board with them. cool?

In case you're interested, Dean's Ecto replica IS for sale. I have no other info on it other than that, and it came from him personally...

Hear,Hear... - well said Atti and my congrats on addressing a touchy issue head on and making a good case for buying a completed Ecto vice trying to recreate one from a good, running hearse (a dilapidated hearse is another story, as another user pointed out). At a minimum, if they did opt to swap out the hearse parts to make it Ecto-specific, I would at least hope they save & box away the original hearse pieces and not scrap any metal (Ie, remove Landau metal casket area sides to put in Limo-style Glass) so the Ecto-fication process could be reversed for a nominal amount of work or $$.

Here's another http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1154099205.html Somebody should start a thread about bad Ecto's. I'm sure there are a few.
