  • 'Brakes' light came on today

Driving home from a parade and the 'brakes' light came on. I filled up the reservoir but the brakes feel spongy and the light is still on. You think it just needs to be bled or do you think there might be some other issue?

They need bled. Look for leaks while your there, the fluid went somewhere.

Master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and calipers are the most common causes of leaks. For the M/C, look behind it where it mounts to the booster and where the rod comes through the firewall. Rear wheel cyls. look for fluid coming out of the drums. And the calipers should be easy see any leaking fluid when you look at them. Also check the line connections for evidence of leaking fluid.

The "Brakes light" is activated by your proportioning valve. It's a safety device that, in the event of a leak, shuts off brake pressure to the leaking end of the vehicle. Once you've verified the source of the leak they can be a pain to reset. If the light won't go out after you've repaired the leak, PM me and I'll walk you through resetting it.

Read the part labeled : Pressure Differential Switch

The master cylinder provides the pressure that engages your car brakes. Learn how the master cylinder works with the combination valve to make sure you can brake safely.

I wonder if I fucked something up when doing the wheel studs?

Did you remove the shoes or hit the wheel cylinder?

I did remove the shoes and the little 'T' shaped pushers fell out (they aren't attached to anything). I probably need to adjust that drum anyways.

I would definitely check that wheel cylinder first...
