  • Door latches

I was wondering if any one has had problems with their doors closing. On Judas you have to push down the latches every time you open the door, or they won't shut properly. Any suggestions?

        ok for real now

every car i get i take the doors apart clean out all the stuff that seems to find its way inside and drill a few holes in the bottom for water to drain out ... them clean all the old grease and crap off the latches, locks.window tracks with brake parts cleaner and air then wd-40 or something like that and work it work it work it till it works free then a lite coat of white grease.

the last few cars i have got had doors just did not want to open now talk about a pain in the ass ... i have taking and going in the top of the window just spraying the crap out of the locks with a wd40 type spray and then using something to work the locks from the inside till it pops then take them apart and do all that above....

think about it these cars sit for years sometimes in the weather and alot of the locks and even the rear side doors are never used that much so they get lazy

        goodluck with her

Thanx for the info! I had the drivers side door working right for maybe a day, then the catch started sticking again!I've done some cleaning, but nothing as intense as what you are describing. Guess I had better get busy! Sounds like you know how to keep' em in line! The side and back doors are good, but I think we will have to repair the back door lock. It won't unlock with the key, you have to climb through the back and unlock it manually! Judas is a great car though! Can't wait to get him closer to what we want! Thank you again for the info!

WD-40 is like a psycho ex-girlfriend, She is great while you are using her, but when you stop, she lets your parts dry up and rust away. Then when you think she is gone she bubbles back up, usually when it cost you the most.

WD-40 is good for breaking parts loose, but it is not a long lasting lube. Grease those latches.

When I worked at my buddy's body shop, he didn't not allow WD-40 in the shop because it wrecks havoc on paint. It is very hard to clean off and can ruin a paintjob if you don't get it completely off the surface.

As far as your latches go, trying cleaning and lubing. If that doesn't work, it may just be worn out. It maybe time to replace them. They do wear out, esp. if someone l"lubed" them with WD-40 in the past. The driver's door get's the most use, so it should be the first to go. The latches should be the same as most GM products of that vintage.

i think thats what i said wd-40 ( but i now like something called knocker loose) to work them loose then some white grease to lube them or some good butt lube seems to work so Mac told me ....
