  • Distributor help!!!!!!!!

I need some help here, 3 years ago I replaced my stock points style distributor with an HEI one and now I must go back to points style.
The HEI runs fine, but I am adding an after market A/C system and the HEI does not fit.
I will eventually upgrade the points to electronic with a conversion kit but for now the points will do.
The problem is I can't remember where number one is on the distributor and which way it should point.
So I need someone with a 472/500 points distributor to take a good picture and post it so I can see.

One more thing, does anyone have a power steering pump lying around with a double belt pully on it for a late 60's early 70's caddy?

from the gm book dist install
install with the contact top of rotor pointing slightly counter clockwise from # 1 plug firing mark ..as the dist seats in the cam it will turn clockwise to be on # 1 and # 1 is the first in the right side ...

As long as you have your wires in the correct firing order, you can put #1 anywhere when you stab your dizzy. Make sure the #1 cylinder is at TDC. The general rule of thumb is to make #1 on your distributer point at the #1 cylinder but again, as long as #1 is at TDC, you can stab the distributer anywhere and make where ever the rotor points, #1 - just be sure the firing order is correct.

I think the guys offer a small body HEI for 472/500. They also have a relocater bracket for the A/C (since compressors won't mount to Edelbrock perfomance manifolds).
