  • HEI convertion

I'm sure someone here has changed from points to HEI. I have a 73 Cadillac hearse. Would an HEI for a Chevy Big Block work?

I don't think so. A Cadillac one will slide right in, but requires a few little modifications. You can usually get one for less than $20 on Ebay.

If you have double belts, you will need to remove your smog rails, and one of the belts will rub a teensy bit on the cap, which, people say, is not a problem. You might ask this over on 500cid.com's forum, or cadillaclasalleclub.org. I can't remember what you do with the hose that goes to the rails, but you can plug the holes in the heads with freeze plugs, or dimes and JB Weld. I even heard of one person running his wiring conduit through them, but that's an advanced topic if I ever heard one.

I think there guys have a "small" housing HEI for 472 and 500.

Home of CAD 500 - Cad Company specializes in engine parts and accessories for Cadillac 500, 472, and 425 engines.

I have been using the Pertronix ignitor II conversion kit on my points distributor for 5 years now and haven't had a bit of problem out of it. I think the kit is around $100.

The regular ignitor is a cheaper version that is less performance for around $70.
