  • Preventive rust issues

So as a few of ya know, i do have a 86 Caddy Deville Hearse, and im havin an issue with it. I found out that my cradle is rusty, and rusted right threw in spots, i have pictures at myspace.com/thefreighttrain13 there under "unerneath vicky". But i did track down a new cradle, but what i was wondering, whats the best way to rust proof the cradle as best i can? i been told that that kind of car is infamous for rusting specially the cradle, and the cradles are usually the first to go, any info can be helpfull, thanks.

well you can clean it up real good before you install it, and then paint it with some etching primer, maybe, and then maybe some rubber underbody coating.

A Carlise cathartic cathodic corrosive protection system is the best you can get. Of course, they haven't been the same since the Catholics bought them out. If you can find one NOS that was made before it was the Catholic Carlise cathartic cathodic corrosive protection system, they're the ones that kick ass. The anodes are intechangeable, I think, if you purchase an adapter from Radio Shack, although you might have a little trouble because Tandy was bought out by the scientologists, and anything that didn't make sense to them, they just threw out in the trash.

You might check in the Western churches, especially the Mormons, but forget about the Southern Baptists. They live in the fucking mud, and to buy one from them would cost enough to make a Sunday offering look like a drop in the bucket.

Maybe you should just spray some of that black shit on it, like they do when they're new. The people on the Cadillac board know what it's called.

RadioShack anodes and checking with churches?
        Ummmmm, ok.

Anyway, powder coating would work well.
But really, if the old one lasted 22 years, why not just put a coat of decent Rustolium and call it good. I dont think the rest of the car is going to last ANOTHER 22 years.

I'm somewhat partial to the Methodic Mnemonic Method manipulated by the Methodists. Think real hard about it. Go get a beer. Think about it some more. Add beer. Think again about how much beer money you have left. Go get more beer. Use your pocket lint and Sunday offering money to buy etching primer, epoxy paint in a non-black color and spray-on undercoating. Apply etching primer to clean bare metal to get a good base adhesion. Apply non-black epoxy to primer to seal surface to moisture. Apply undercoating to epoxy to prevent road rocks and debris from removing epoxy. Why non-black epoxy? So you can see where the undercoating used to be the next time you get it on a lift. Re-apply undercoating as needed.
