  • Door push buttons 1972 Caddy

On the outside door handle, Do these just fall out or was it robbed? Im missing the 1 on the back door. I saw on a site and lost it that sold a button and a spring. Would this just push back in? Thanks, Ray

Maybe it fell in? I don't know but you might be able to pick one up at a junk yard or maybe e-bay. I can't imagine why anyone would swipe that but stranger things have happened. I think people would be after the badges more since when going to the junk yard people swipe them all the time then sell them online at quite a profit.

yeah it probably fell in. In '72 the button itself is actually plastic, at least mine was, and there is a little rod attached to it that has a spring over it. If the retainer for the spring breaks or falls off (common) the button will just push through and fall into the rear door when you go to try to use it. It's really simple to just remove the door panel from the door and then take that long rectangular cover plate off the bottom for the inner doorskin. Also keep in mind that the rear door handle is exactly the same as the door handles on any of the cars commercial chassis or not for that year model. It's too early for me to think of which it is, just make sure you know wether you need a drivers or pass side handle. Should only be 2 7/16 bolts holding the handle on.

        handle

Thanks for the replys. I havent taken it apart yet, messing with too many other things. It works fine, just have to stick Your finger way in there, lol. It seems to be the same as the pass doors. Cool if its there and I can fix it without hunting down more pieces.

They sell the whole handle assemblies at the parts store in the "HELP!" section.
