  • stuck brake drum

On my 63 MM, I have a stuck rear drum. It has the large nut that holds the drum onto the axle/keyway. Have tried heat, hammers, cuss words. The brum rocks back and forth, so the shoes are not stuck. The drum is stuck on the axle.
Any help, or where to get a good drum puller.

Pneumatic hammer on the axle center WITH THE NUT PARTIALLY ON! You have to push the axle slightly IN to pop the drum free. Had the same issue with my 61 the first time...

If this works, I'll get you a "date" from craigs list. If it wasnt 9 PM, with me in my underwear sitting on my couch, I'd be swinging my sledge hammer.

Just make sure she is thick, curvy and doesn't mind laying in a bathtub full of ice

Boogeyman, what did you do for brake shoes on the rear of your 61. My parts book shows them different than the standard body cadillacs. The good book sais 61-64 are the same .

I started working on the front brakes and havent gotten back to the rear brakes. My books say the springs are the same inside the drum. Just different shoes. Look forward to possibly smashing some shit and spending more money.

What usually works for stuck drums is to spray with a good penetrant around the lugs and center let soak and use a air hammer between the lugs and just keep going around the hub until the drum loosens on the hub You can use a big hammer if you don't have a air hammer but you need good aim not to damage studs... Aw hell it probably needs new ones anyway....Hammer the hell out of it..

Got that muther fucker off. Tried the air hammer. No luck. Got Goliath out. A 4 foot sledge hammer that Thor would be proud of. Some well placed hits on the axle, and that bitch still didnt pop off. Got under the car and hit the back edge of the drum. Slippery whore fell right off. The shoes were toast.

                  On to the other side
