  • How do I take out the interior of my 1990 Cad by Eagle

So I was driving home from a funeral last night (yeah I know it's funny) and I heard a noise but nothing fell off my car that I saw in the rearview mirror (it was dark so I couldn't see the side). My landau bar on the drivers side fell out near the business end. I'm wondering if I take the interior of the car out can I refasten it in and how do I actually get the interior out. My 82 had an obvious way (though I've never tried because I've never needed to) but on this one I can't tell where to start and don't know if I'll be able to get to it even if I do.

I guess my largest worry is if I try and still can't do it, then need to replace the interior because I also screwed that up in the process of taking it out.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I have never seen landaus that bolt from the inside. Both the 75 and Helen have caps over the bolts on the outside of the car. If you look close at pictures of Helen, you'll notice that I'm missing one of them. Look for a little bitty screw on the underside of the bar where it's attached, and that will be what holds the cap in place over the bolt.

I may be completely wrong, but it's worth a look before tearing into your interior.

I have heard on some of the newer coaches the landau bars are bolted on the inside. I know a 95 Krystal Koach, the interior has to be removed to take the landau bars off.

The interior panels behind the bars might have been the first things put in and the fasteners are hidden... see if you can take the panel that is below that to the floor out and you should be able to see what action is needed to get the upper panel out.. One thing is for sure, It went in there so it has to be able to come out...Screws can also be hard to see sometimes... I have not taken one out but I have done alot of interior work inj my time and sometimes a little exploratory disassembly is needed to see the light..

I know the late 80's Superior's inner panels (the main side panels) actually "pop" in with retaining clips. Just wedge your fingers in behind it and pull and they pop right out. Really the worst part about that is getting the little fuckers back in. Trying to line up the clips with the holes they pop into is a bitch. But this type of set up would be my assumption. After all, everything from 1985 and up pops together like it's made out of legos.........

Well it's not necessary now... or maybe it will be however I found that the nut wedges in from the outside and has rusted out I think. Not too sure how to fix this one but I'm sure I can get some help from some friends. Thanks anyway.

You might be able to use a rivnut. A rivnut kit is a fun thing to have anyway, for attaching stuff from one side. Drilll it and screw it.
