  • The Glass

Hi guys and gals. Im new here and just bought my first hearse about six months ago. Im looking at an 89 caddy s&s with com glass. Its missing the drivers side window. My question is this. What is the difference in commercial glass and regular glass in a hearse? And how do I tell if I have com glass in my other hearse? My current hearse is an 87 Collins. I really dont want to buy this other hearse if I cant find a glass for it. Thanks for the help.

Does this mean the S&S with the commercial glass would have a taller roof then the collins? Ive got a lot to learn about hearses.lol

yes collins is a brand of coach. the side windows are TALLER than normal cadillac windows.....that is what commercial glass means.. you could get plexi glass to replace the drivers side window it you want to. that is a option ;also if your collins has a TALLER roof. called a high top then you most possible have regular glass

There is a thread in here about using lexan to replace glass. i would go with that over plexiglass. it's stronger and safer. you may loose the ability to roll your windows up and down though - because lexan scratches so easily

Are the side glasses on these cars curved or straight?

                  Curved.

I've been running polycarbonate (lexan) in my car, for 4 of my windows, for almost 15 years now with no issues. I roll them up and down all the time. (you just have to buff them out every few years.)

Should I save this S&S? I can buy it for 700 but it is missing the side window and the engine is bad. I dont care about the engine because i have one for it. This missing window really bugs me.

well that depends if you feel like using lexan or not.

hell id buy it and change the engine and just run lexan in that side window its vary rare you come across a hearse at that price

I was just wanting another one to make a hot rod anyway. That way I wont be messing up the one I already have.
