  • Transmission help needed.

    Hi
Having issues with my transmission not shifting into 3rd. its a
    64 caddie MM

From what ive read on the form the modual and any vacume leak can be the problem.
Tomorrow is saturday so I want to jump in.
Any advice on where to start?
    Thanks.

Ive got a 63 MM, you have any spare parts? There is a 64 MM in the town next doors junk yard.

Does it have the turbo hydra matic?

Other than the tranny modulator, check the vacuum lines going to the tranny

If it has the hydra matic, change the filter. Has it just started to not shift into 3rd?

My 73 hearse wasn't wasn't shifting into third. I asked around and everybody said it sounds like a vacuum leak. I was told to follow the vacuum line from the carb to the transmission. I found that the vacuum line that went into the carb had came out. I put in back in and drove Her and that fixed the problem.

        What is your shift pattern? My Hydromatic Jet-Away is P N D L R as opposed to the TH400/350/325 P R N D 2 1.

          Thanks for all the info.
Ill check these things today and give an update.

I think the issue is that there is an aftermarket holly carb instaled and The linkage is dissconected, also I dont see any vacuum line running from the tranny to this new carb.

Luckley I have the original carb that came with the car.So if I have to ill rebuild that one.

Anyone know where the line for the tranny to the carb is located?
          Thanks.
          Also my shift pattern is P N D D L R
P.S Sorry,No extra parts that I can spare. But you wouldent happen to have any wxtra hinges for the jump seats would ya?

I checked my books and you have a hydramatic, confirmed by the shift pattern. There is no vacuum line to the tranny, as the shifting is controlled by the TV linkage. You will need to hook up the linkage. I fashioned a adaptor plate from the original throttle linkage plate. Once you hook it up, you should be shifting normally when the TV rod is hooked up
