was out last weekend when the charge light was flickering. stopped and popped the hood. started to jiggle wires and the sparks fucking flew when i jiggled the hot alternator wire/terminal....melted the fastener and housing...undid the battery, and removed the wire. now i am runnin on just the battery....so

    Q. what to do?

replace it or tap it out and try and reconnect it and use bigger bolts...?

    Q. whats a alternator for a 368 ci cost????

    thanks

Check to see if there is someone close that rebuild them. I had my rebuilt and it was only $20 and it took only took a few minutes.

If there is an old school rebuilder around I say go for that, otherwise just replace it and be done with the hassle. Electrical fires SUCK!

Anyone with a big stereo or cb, lights, multiple batteries etc etc needs to read this. Its called the "Big 3 upgrade".

Thanks evil...that was a valuable piece there...flash fried wires suck

yeah I guess i will have to peel off some cash and just ...do it right...

i have heard horror stories of alternators costing $300+ ....

but i forget this is the days of disposable everything ...

              thanks all

Have you ever checked to see what your coach is drawing with all accessories running... perhaps you should check into an alternator with a higher amperage rating.... Depending on the year of your coach it could be an easy fix to crack it open and replace the stud and insulator..if that is all that was causing the sparks to fly...but if you are drawing to the high end of your alternators capabilities then it more than likely will happen again...when you least want it to .. as always...

Klabbe, if you want to do this, I have tools and can help. No need to pay someone to do it, it's pretty easy.
