Door cards..?

Ok so I've got to fix the mirror on the passenger side, (which has come off because the little clip has come off the end of the post) I need to take off the door card, I can't remember how to get the arm rest off. I have loosened all the clips all the way round, and I think you have to slide the armrest, but I'm not sure if it's up, down, forward or back, I don't want to force it incase it breaks..!
has anybody done this (its an '86 Caddy S&S)

i dont think that arm rest comes off it looks pretty attached
