good to know. Again, I really appreciate the input; I was at my wits end. Looks like I'll have to drop the tank on my next day off! I'm still cutting the cat out, just so I can put a straight pipe on it.... lol

Fuel flow issue?

3 more things I would check, Others may disagree but that's Me. Does this newer one have a vent, if it's plugged it can't pull fuel. The vents on My big truck get constantly plugged by dirt divers and have to be reamed with a piece of wire. Even with 120 gals of fuel, the level will not drop. Try loosening or removing the fuel cap. The rubber lines on top of the tank may be cracked or sucking closed under a load. Years ago, when I had a gas station, I blew out many fuel lines going to the tank. If We got lucky We blew the sock right off the end of the line in the tank and delt with a inline fuel filter for the trash. Your tank may not be that bad, just harded stuff on the screen. Remember to remove the fuel cap and You should hear the fuel gushing around the tank. OR, just pull the tank, lol.

***UPDATE***
I've been taking care of various odds and ends, dropped/cleaned the tank, started tracking down rubbers for the doors, peeling the top off, trying to repair the hood, etc. I'd all but given up on getting the old pig running; and was going to just buy a new engine when i had the funds.
That all changed when the city orange tagged it-i had 3 days to move the coach, or THEY would move it to the 'pound. Had no choice but to tow it to the shop down the street. Dude started checking it out, and after cleaning out all the pecan shells from under the hood(damn squirrels) and charging the battery, he found that the solenoid on the electric choke was stuck.
THE POINT:
1. Would the solenoid going out have caused the aforementioned issue? The only thing i haven't explored is the cat getting plugged up.
2. Will a non-electric q-jet for a BBC fit the 368's intake manifold, or do i need a carb for the 472/500 Cadillac block?
As always, all assistance is appreciated...
