  • 84 superior help needed.

I've got a coulpe of gremelins to find. Some could be related to each other. Fuses look good but haven't started to check into relays. The relay panel is different than what I have on the 86 so my service manual for the 86 isn't much help. The power seat, rear interior lights, windshield wipers and reverse lights are not working. Any ideas?

Oh and if you haven't seen the overall thread on this car http://www.nationalhearse.net/forums...Superior-build

Ive found even though the fuses look ok they should be checked and if there is corrosion present the fuse could be good but still not making contact on both sides to the fuse block. pretty easily checked with a test light or meter. Also dirty grounds are a good place to start with things like that.

All my grounds are good. I'm really leaning towards a relay. What sucks is none of them are marked as to what they are for. Seats have power to switch but nothing to seat motor. reverse lights show good ground.

Hard to believe all the relays are bad. Check the clips to the fuses for power.

The interior light are not relayed nor are th reverse lights. Hard to believe but electrical prb are prety easy to narrow down. Start at the problem say the light that wont light and just trace back the grond and the hot till you find the problem.

The rear interior lights are constant hot and the door switches coltrol the ground.
The reverse lights are grounded and the reverse switch controls the hot.
The power seat should have a circut breaker instead of a fuse in the panel. If you pull the seat switch out is there power in but not out? Then its the switch. If there is power out then it could be the motor?

wipers turned out to be the wiper motor and switch in dash, they work now.

still need to figure out the rest. I did some more testing on the seats. I have power to the switch. Nothing at the seat motor. Ground is good. Switch is testing good. This on is a bit more simple since it only goes back and forward, there is no tilt.

Be careful about testing those switches. If the contacts are dirty, they can ohm out OK, you can switch them on and see voltage with a test light or meter, but when a load is put on them, the connection fails. I went through a whole bucket of door switches that I bought on Ebay, and every one of them had the same problem...drove me nuts trying to troubleshoot the circuit, and all I had to do was take a switch apart and clean it.

What I'm saying is, check for power on both sides of the switch while it is plugged in, and the load applied.
