If there were some manner of obstruction below the carburetor that is causing the fuel to puddle and ignite with regards to his backfiring, an 1/8th cup of gasoline burning at the wrong time could damage the carburetor. I wouldn't venture this as likely as a crossed pair of plug wires, but either feature could cause a real problem with that much gas. Simply turning the throttle plates by hand and observing the carb throat with the choke plates held open to confirm if raw gas is being put to the engine by the accelerator pump would be safer.

I moved the throttle lever, and observed the acelerator pump operation, I saw nothing come out of the accelerator pump passages. It has sat since may without being started, not sure if the gas evaporated,or not Attached are pics of the areas around the carb. One thing I recall now,is when I did get it to run, although poorly, the choke was fully open after about a minuteAttached Files

Try checking the under side of the fuel pump where the line to the carb connects. If it has a removable fitting that would take a one inch wrench to remove then it has a fuel filter in the pump. It's the same filter that you would find in most GM Qjet inlets. My 71 has one and when I checked it, it was 90% blocked.

Ok so you checked tming at 6 base. I assume you checked on the number 1 wire. Is it possible the distributor is 180 degrees off. Which will make the timing check ok but the firing order will be 180 off as well. Easy enough to check by actually pulling the number one plug to find TDC then pulling cap to see if the rotor is at number 1 or 180 off. May not sound right but it does happen.

I'm not entirely following as it seems to me that if the number one wire is 180 degrees away from tdc for the number one plug the timing would not indicate anywhere near 6 btdc. Unless you're expecting there was some confusion with regards to which physical cylinder is number one?
Do you mean if he did the 15634278 counter-clockwise instead of clockwise by chance?

So the dizzy was never removed and the wires never pulled from the cap. So even if it was wired wrong (not normal) before it would still be the same now. Then I have no idea. Only way I can see getting fire through the intake like that is timing off or firing order wrong.

This is correct, the dizzy was not removed just the cap,with all wires still attached to the cap, and plug wire ends marked with a number for the cyl they went to.
The last time the dizzy was out, was last summer, to replace a faulty pick up coil, and it was running as of last October, when I drove it to a cruise night. Only issue the car had before,was stalling with out warning when it got warmed up

Been quite busy lately, I was able to shine a flashlight under the car, the fuel pump on mine does not have the filter in it.
