  • Advice on taking down the headliner

I want to take the headliner down in my 62 MM Hearse without damaging the material. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how to do this? I want to be able to use the same material to remake the headliner.

    Thanks in advance!!

I just pulled the headliner out nicely from a 70 miller. I needed to work on the roof and am going to put it back in, I have pics if needed. But bascially in the rear you remove the sconce panels and pull out about 300 staples. The edges of the material are stapled to a wood furing strip nailed into the structure. Around the back door it had a trim that was stapled in with the headliner fabric then folded over to hid the edge. Just carefully unfold this to reveal the staples. Over the side windows it was tucked up into a metal strip the the strip pressed down to grab the fabris. I used a plastic spatula to pry the strip away alittle then worked the fabric down out of it. Once its loose all the way to the partition you can remove the steel rods (bows) from the clips. They just pull out. Then you can slide the bows out from the casings. I marked the position as they seem to be alittle different from each other. In the front it has the same fabric trim around the window and had a steel strip screw in at the windshield hiding the staples. The cargo are will no biggie to reinstall as the fabric was left way long behind the panel. In the front it was cut short after stapled so might be tricky to hold taught when reinstalling but not undoable. I did not remove it from the partition just rolled it up and left it there. Hope that helps

THanks Cupcake! I was wondering about the material above the sconce panels as I couldn't see back there like I could with the rest of it. Sounds easy enough. As soon as the hearse is back on the ground, I will get after it! Funny thing is, the casings have all rotted away and has let the header sag. I don't have a partition in mine to worry about- but I imagine the fabric is in place over the windshitld the same way.

Once its out you if you sew or can take it somewhere to have new casings sewn in as long as the main fabric is still sound
