landau bar removal

i have a '76 caddy m&m, and the passenger side landau bars are giving me trouble. the nuts are spinning when i try to unscrew the 'bolts'. my question is: how are the bolts attached to the top? anyone have a neat trick to get the nut to stop spinning? i would love to not disturb the headliner, can it be done? I am refinishing the top and would love to get it out of the way so i can make progress on it....

It should have a flat plate with a threaded sleeve made to it. The whole plate may be spinning inside or it may be stripped and have a nut on it. Probably have to pull the inner side panel, but not the headliner.
