  • late 50's Cadillac wiring

I got my motor all wired with the exception of 2 looms... When I bough the car, it was all torn down with no motor or trans, so I never saw what they go to. Im hoping if i post pics, someone might know whats what.

The first pic is a set of 3 connections on the driver side near the radiator. there is nothing on the wiring diagram about them. They looked like the wires to the voltage regulator, but thats on the opposite side of the motor and already hooked up.

Maybe they go to a solenoid?

Next is this doohickey mounted on the passenger side heater box of the firewall. I took apart, cleaned, re-greased the gears and re-installed, but I have no idea what it is! There are 3 wires next to it with the appropriate connectors, white, orange and purple, but I want to know what it is and which terminals those wires go to. This is not in the wiring diagram either.

This is on a 58 Miller Meteor, but i think other close year coaches might have it as well. Any body recognize this on their coach?

I don't have one of whatever that is you have pictured in the second picture on my 58. If it has gears in it, my best guess would be a curious step towards electric wipers but that seems an odd location for such a device.

I'll check the wiring around the radiator when I get home tonight.

0202121618.jpg0202121619.jpgJust walked outside and looked on the '57 Superior combo....Those wires "on mine anyway" go to the parking light buckets on either side. They go into a standard square plastic connector and then a blue and white wire come off each plug to the buckets. Those ends on them are like regulator plugs and were probably on one,on your inner fender well, to wigwag the lights "Mine are not but yours could very possibly be".....That assembly in your second pic looks like a wiper gear step down. I've seen those on a few other Caddys but am NOT certain.

I checked mine and did not have those particular wires anywhere on the driver's side that I could tell. I did have a single orange, green and navy blue wire setup that went to the signal/park lights down on the bottom of the front bumper though.

Well, I should have done this sooner, but I checked the wiring diagram for any cluster of wires with colors matching my rogue wires, and I found one...... The high beam switch.... The car came with one, but it wasn't installed, it was in the parts box... I checked the high beam switch and the connectors match those of the rogue wires. I guess the previous owner lumped those wires in with the rest of the loom that goes to the radiator area... So tomorrow I shall check.

This leaves me with the issue of the round motor looking thing on the firewall.

Thank you all for the help and quick replies so far!

Does anyone know if the coach builders made wiring diagrams for their cars? My dome lights aren't getting power and I cant follow the wires...

Ive made a diagram of the wires that I can see in the headliner. There's a white, a black and an orange that I dont know where they go. and the loom jets down the A pilar into the dash. guess I have to take the dash off again...

I've come to the conclusion that the unknown object in the second picture has to be an old school wig wag motor! I think it works kinda like points on a distributor. theres a wire going to it and 2 that go the the red lights in the bumper.

Hey Ken, I dont have anything planned but that doesnt mean we cant throw something together. I could probably get away the last week of this month and then next opportunity would be mid to late May.
