Selling this coach was heartbreaking to me. But my wife had a stroke, my daughter is a disabled adult and lives with us, and all I've been able to find is part time work, and thanks to a certain new law, for a while my hours were cut from 32 hours a week, to 28. One sometimes sacrifices the things we love, for the people we love.

Yes, it sold fast, despite somebody letting me know I wanted too much for it.

Had you chosen to let anybody know before putting on eBay it would have sold even faster. One phone call or email wouldn't saved time over writing that auction description. Someone from Durham would have been over same day. Or you could have let J.C. know who started this thread.

If there is any truth to the spreading rumor of you stopping auction for a measly $7k, you sadly sold yourself short.

Because I was on a vacation I haven’t watched the Internetin the last couple of weeks. So I missed the ad on eBay, as well as the tread on this forum. I'm sorry for Otto to read about his private circumstances.
I keep looking for the pin in the haystack, and tomake it myself even more difficult; once I hope to find a car in a (slightly) bettercondition as the car Otto owned... I keep courage.
Thanks Atti for your attention, and I wish Otto good luck in the future.

                J.C.

We'll, when you tell me it would cost you $40,000 to make the car available for funeral use, obviously, even if I offered you the car for free, my price would be too high. If I was in better shape financially, and had mechanical abilities, I would have jumped at paying the price I had quoted you. Sadly, neither is the case. Of course, I wouldn't be using the car for funeral services, so I wouldn't need to spend so much on it. Even in So Cal, with people who specialized in this era Cadillac, I could never find anyone to fix the gas guage, which was stuck in the "Full" position. Then there was that no one seemed to be able to fix the carb, which meant having to use starter fluid every time I wanted to start it up, and that caused the fuel line to clog, every couple of weeks. Since AAA NC won't tow a hearse, I didn't need to spend over $100 every time just to get the vehicle to a mechanic to get the car to barely run if I wanted to actually drive the hearse hundreds of miles to the nearest event, let alone just around Wilson. Then there is my fake hearse, which needs tires, and new ball joints. I could have sold that vehicle, and fixed the 59', but being able to find anybody here in Wilson to do the job to make the car dependible was a fools quest, and at least I can get the mechanical work done on my fake hearse, and have a way to get to work, which doesn't involve public transportation (good luck finding a bus in Wilson after 9 P.M., or shelling out a lot on Taxi's or pedalling a bike to my job in the snow or rain.) As much as I hated selling the car, and dealing with a dealer who only paid me, after I told him the deal was off (I was impressed how fast I got paid after I told him to forget putting any money into my Pay-pal account, and shut off my cell phone). Meanwhile. If I ever make a decent living, and have a shelterd parking spot, and could find a place that didn't take my money to half-a## fix my vehicle, I'd consider another vintage hearse (maybe a 72 or a superior hearse with the wrap around rear windows) But in the meantime, I'll just have to be content driving an artcar, inspired by funeral coaches.

Otto, i hope you will consider coming to asheville. i don't think anyone will have a problem with your fake hearse.

Here lies the big problem for me. I'm going to like someone for who he is. Not for what he drives. Making friends based on astetic reasons alone, makes a shallow friendship, easily broken. When most clubs loose a member, most don't consider the person a friend any longer.

I'ld like that. I certainly have a much better chance of doing it with the fake hearse, than I ever would have with my 59.
