  • WTB: Any salvageable $500 hearse for BABE rally

I was referred to this site by someone from Craigslist who was selling a hearse. I am entering the 2012 BABE rally and my team is looking for a hearse to do the rally in. We've been told by people who have done the rally in previous years that it's impossible to find one and we are hoping to prove everyone wrong (especially since I registered our team as "Team Reaper").

Anyone out there selling a hearse they would let go of for $500 or less (required to be eligible for the rally)? We aren't picky at all for year/make/model, only the price and that it be salvageable.

The hurdle to overcome? Acquiring any hearse even remotely salvageable for less than scrap value. Scrap has dropped the last couple weeks and is still over $300/ton. A 'light' hearse is going to come in around 5600 pounds; with many hovering around 6000.

I know of a junkyard that specializes in procars. They've been paying $1000 for scrap hearses for a number of years already, and within the last couple have increased to the $1200-1400 range.

Good luck in your quest. Relaying your location may help.

Wow, that makes me want to scrap my truck for more than I paid for it! I'm in southern Indiana, but am expecting to travel given that I know it's going to be hard to come up with anything. I'm just hoping someone out there wants to know their old car is going to be salvaged instead of scrapped and will let it go.
