As a kid I saw one for sale in Gainesville florida. It said last ride limo across the front window. It was cherry red with chrome wheels and spider webs glass etched into the windows. The inside was all customized with benches and red and black velvet. To this day one of the nicest hearses I have ever seen and likely the one that began my obsession. Dont suppose anyone knows anything about this car? It would have been around gainesville in the late 80's.

Late to the game, but my obsession started when I was about 6 or 7 watching Munsters reruns with my dad. I was in love with their coach and Dragula, but when I saw the vehicle that sometimes picks Herman up for work.... I fell in love.

When I was 8 my grandfather passed away. My parents gave me the option of going to the funeral or staying at home with my younger cousins. Being as young as I was, I decided to go to the funeral based on the fact that I would get to ride in a limo. When I realized the limo wasn't the same thing as the hearse, I threw a fit. I believe I got a spanking for that, but I still got to ride in a baby blue limo with velvet interior, which was pretty cool.

Right after I turned 15 there was a hearse parked out in front of an abandoned grocery store with a For Sale sign on it. My mother jokingly said they were going to buy it for my first car and I shrieked with joy, not realizing she was joking. They talked it over for a couple of months, we went to look at it several times, my mom said it would be a great drunk driving deterrent... I think the interior was in decent shape, the outside was a little rusty in spots with some dents, nothing too bad for a first car. The day my parents went to buy it, it was gone. (My first car wound up being a 1986 Buick Regal in primo condition, so I still technically got a luxury car and a boat for my first car.)

Three years ago I bought a PT Cruiser because, to me, they resemble small hearses.

When my fiance and I first started dating I was embarassed to admit my hearse obsession until we were driving one day and passed a funeral home. He made me pull in so we could check out the three hearses parked in the front. From that moment I knew he was The One.

We are now planning his and hers hearses as a first year anniversary gift to each other. I would like to put electric engines in both and make them "green."

I've liked them ever since I saw Phantasm. However I've always kind of liked them but just never really got in to them until later in life. Then when I was 22 or so I watched Harold and Maud for the first time with my friend Behkey and figured out you could own them privately (I sometimes don't catch onto things real quick). Then I was 24-25 and my truck (91 GMC sanoma, great truck) got stolen from where i was working. Looked for a month and was determined to get a hearse. Got a hearse locally off e-bay, and free membership with purchase (membership was free anyhow lol). I miss that car so much I'll get another eventually, won't be soon enough though, I want one NOW. I guess I'll have to just settle for being the president of a hearse club

I can't remember for sure, but it always been something I was interested in. I have been a Caddy guy for more than ten years and I think it may be a natural to appreciate the construction and quality of a commercial build on a stock Cadillac. I just recently got my first. Actually have two. One I call the Donor. They are both '71 MMs. One is chopped and completely gutted. I tracked the driver down on ebay. I lost it the first time and then it went back online and got it from the next owner. Needs more work than I expected, but I aint scared! I did all the work on my '72 Calais. It gets lots of looks—very 70s/pimp. I guess I am also into the attention you get driving unusual cars. I think I get more looks in my '72 than a typical Mustang/Camaro/Tri-Chevy/Vette. They are all predictable. I cant drive the hearse often due to gas prices and the practicality of parking and dealing with traffic. I do remember that I was never afraid of funerals, the homes and the hearses. I would always stall and check out the cars while everyone else filed in around the grave or into the church. I plan to have fun with it and use it in photo/art projects. It will be hot rod black with Von Dutch style stripes and flames. I have already stripped the driver compartment and painted the floor black. The carpet was rotted and the headliner disintegrated and sagged. I found some interesting things in the car. A receipt for 310 pounds of "human remains" and a warning label regarding air transporting an airtight casket. I also found a half dozen .22 rounds and a really nice, heavy bronze casket key.

I subscribed here to get ideas and resources for parts and tips. I hope to show pictures of my progress.

My hearse obsession started when I was 12 years old. My uncle, brother, and me walked up the road at my uncle's house to look at a historical marker. Not fall from the marker is a funeral home. We started talking about the funeral home and my uncle said "I knew a boy in school that drove a hearse". I have aways like weird things and just plain being weird. I said "I want a hearse". I started driving and had forgotten about wanting a hearse, until I saw a hearse in town for sale at someone's house. I drove by to look at it a lot. It was a blue 80's model. Fast forward a few years, I got my family to go to Savannah Georgia and go on the hearse ghost tour (first ride in a hearse). That really started my obsession. I few month later me and a friend had gotten back from a car show and we passed a house with a hearse in the yard, it was/is a blue 68 Superior. I looked at it for a while, but ended up not buying it. Not long after a friend told me about a hearse at a car lot. I went and looked at it. I called and asked what they wanted for it and they told me. I went and talked to them about it and got an even better price. I got the money and went back and asked if I could drive it. They told me if I was going to buy it I could, I told them I had the money. I bought Abbie (my hearse) November 20 2004, my birthday is November 25. So, She was my birthday present to me. I still have Her and She is getting finished painting right now.
