        I had gotten enough mahogany to build a traditional coffin quite a while ago:

        But have not gotten around to doing much with it. Its all planed now, and I have a couple of them drilled for jointing w/ dowels but I then took a break due to needing more pipe clamps & never got back around to it.

        I do have a full set of 1890s hardware for it, though I am on the edge over whether or not I will use the handles I already have because the casting seems real weak & there's a risk they'll break apart if someone were to try to lift a solid-hardwood coffin by pulling on them.

        The difficult part seems to be the slant antique coffins had to them so they could be stood upright. I wouldn't be surprised if Atti had an antique coffin from his collection pictured that would show what I am talking about. I tried doing a mockup in Autocad and found it was too needlessly complicated for me so I cut it from the design I had started on;

          Sorry it took me so long to respond...I was having troubles with my hearse. I fired it up and was spraying gas in to the carb trying to get the gas to it when a damn cat climbed in to the car and fell off the dash on to the shifter lever and the car took off in 1st the gear unexpectedly with me wrapped around the hood trying to avoid the front wheel! I puled my arm and it was hurting like hell. now I'm getting ready to go on a cat hunt!

          jlb9132 , that's kewl! I have some brass that would be great for the corners, but I was thinking of using a wooden corner with a carved design of some sorts. might changed my mind after seeing yours.

          sgath92 I definitely 100% sure I can not afford Mahogany. lol. that stuff cost more then my hearse is worth. Are you going to have a Glass top? just from the way the drawings looked like it woud be.
          I was looking maybe building a place that I could put my sword on the top. I found the trim I like this morning and it was not too bad, but the wood section was running low and there was not much in the way of any good choices.

            Pesronally, the problem I have with my victorian coffin is it doesn't stand on end to well for storage. Fortunately, it's short enough that It fits in the back of our 2006 Dodge, which was cutomized to look somewhat hearse like. If your building one from scratch, modify the design of the coffin so it meets your need. If the coffin looks good otherwise, I can't imagine you getting many complaints about how "wrong" that would look.

              Yeah, mine is mostly just going to sit in the back of the hearse. lol. hopefully it will look good. I am sort of getting excited now that I have a idea of how to do it...I even decided to add a sword on the top and counter sink it in.
              I wanted to do a traditional type with planks but the more I see the pics of the one jlb9132 did the more I like it.
