Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to flame you.

HOWEVER, I don't think driving the hearse to a job interview would be a very expedient way of getting hired.

Businesses have to think about their bottom line. They have to do whatever they can to get customers and maximize their revenue.

They are probably assuming that your hearse would scare away customers, which it very well may. I can't really blame them for making that decision. Business is business, after all.

Is your hearse your daily driver? If so, i'd highly recommend that you get something else. I would say about 95% of potential employers would not be cool with it.

Damn that sucks, i just i still dont get why people are sooo afraid and mortafyed with the cars. I mean there just misunderstood oversized cadillac station wagons, lol. but ya its like ya know you wont hire sumone at mcdonalds even though they have the experince and want to work at mcdonalds and yet you wont hire em because theres a hearse sitting outside. And the funny thing is i am still currently employed at a local resturant and i drove the hearse one day and one of the females goin into the bar got my attnetion and was like you work in a restruant and drive a hearse? i was like ya. she then went on to say that might look bad on the business, i didnt know what to say lol

Earlier back in this thread is a video of McDonalds refusing us service & telling us to Fuck off because we showed up in Hearses. I'll see if I can find the Video again.

This past Sunday I was in the 29th annual Fraser city parade and had a lot of fun. I was in it with my friend/club member Daisy who I sold my old '82 Caddy to, and my other friend from the other hearse club Stan/Jinx with his '70 combination (also Cadillac) At the end of it we were at a carnival for a couple hours.

The only thing that really annoyed me was before the parade got started an older guy came over to Stan and said something, after which he came over to me, shook my hand, and said "I'm blah blah from such and such funeral home and I think what you're doing is a disgrace to my profession".

Now I don't mock death, nor do I worship it, and actually I pretty much completely fear it. But I enjoy and respect the car, the history behind it, and what it was used for. After me and Stan mulled over it a bit.

Eventually I'll have photos and possibly video up later of the parade.

I get this alot in public, but I know 4 different morticians that in secret, love what I do with the club, the cars & the caskets, but they can't publicly say anything.
I've been to many shows where morticians, current & ex, think I am a digrace to the funeral industry. I don't think I am but they are entitled to the opinions, even if they are wrong.

I customized my hearse, but it's hard to tell, other than the rims & center console. I kept mine subtle to honor the car as it was intended but to add my own personal touch to make it mine, safe & with some modern amenities. I don't go to all Chevy shows or Ford shows & tell them they are disgracing the intended design of their automobile, but I get told at least once at every shows I attend.

So manager comes out for an interview what not said shed check out my refrences and call the other mcdonalds i worked at and come back next week. so i was like ok, so a week rolls around, and i park in about the same spot. the same manager was there and said ya we cant hire ya because the other mcdonalds said your unrehirable, so i asked why, they couldnt tell me, which there suppost to. soooo i think it was jus cuz i had the hearse there, i so wish i could proove that and sue em for hearse hating lol

I have had the same problems in the past where what I drie has caused issues with my job, even with my current job it has come up & I'm a independent contractor. It's hard to prove, but if you can you maybe able to get a suit going. I was fired from a job because I drove the most expensive car there on minimum wage. Because I drive a custom Cadillac Hearse they thought I was stealing from the company, even though my previous job is what paid for my car, I still got fired. I did see a lawyer over that but in Arizona, you can get fired with no reason & the company isn't required to give a reason, so I couldn't do anything other than file a no slander order on them for lying about the theft of money & merchandise. The funny thing is the guy who did steal the money & merchandise up & left to Mexico 3 weeks later with out notifying anyone. Didn't want to get caught since the company was still investigating everyone after I was let go.

LOL - Last show we were at I told some people if they win I get a % - Just too bad my wife didn't have her Limo which is about 2.5' longer.

As I've been the only Hearse at the shows / cruises I've attended so far, (with very good responses I might add), next week our group plans to "Crash the Cruise" with 3 Hearses and at least 1 Limo... we'll see how they like us now -

I have been to a lot of car shows and cruise-ins, I have never been told I could not enter. My hearse has won a few trophies and most of Her trophies were made up, for Her. At the Sonic there is a cruise-in the last Thur. of each month, it's starts in April or May and last until October. They sell raffle tickets the length of a car and She is always used. When I go to car show, after I set up everything and clean Her floor, I usually walk off and watch people. It's funny to me to watch the reaction of people. I found that if people are "car people", they don't care what kind of car you own.

It's too bad when you get someone who is supposed to be a "professional". I know my own response would have been to tell that guy that it's unfortunate he feels that way. Perhaps if he tried to see that my interest is to preserve these cars and educate the public by opening their viewpoint on this part of the funeral service...

Basically, make him look like a sap for acting just like one. But in a nice way ;P

Education might help......

I've had all kinds off old cars growing up, and got my first hearse at 16.. a 1969 M&M landau.. it was NOT well received by a neighbor who promptly called the local police. As there were no laws against owning a registered and inspected hearse, which is after all, just another motor vehicle, the police informed the neighbor that there was nothing that they could do. Over the years, this neighbor caused me much grief, constantly complaning to the town hall about anything and everything. I eventually sold the '69 for college money and for years, was "hearseless". However, the neighbor complained about my near mint '67 Fleetwood, and my very threatening '51 Cadillac....who knew wide whitewalls could cause such a fuss.

Fast forward several years... I am now nearing the big "40" and I find myself with many old cars, and more hearses than any sane person should ever own. My hearses have always drawn compliments, although I am familiar with some peoples attitudes towards them. Usually people figure anyone who would own a hearse has to be fascinated by death, coverd with tatts or piercings, or dress in black. People do get thrown for a loop when they see me in my cars, mr. average joe. Most people hate or fear what they do not understand, and tend to stereotype, Truth be told, some of the most down to earth, intelligent people I have ever met have been the aforementioned tatts and piercings crowd. On the flip side, some of the most deranged individuals I have ever come across have been the uber clean cut, religious "my way or the highway" set.

Most people have never been in close proximity to a hearse, so they naturally fear them.. when I've met people like that, I usually make it a point to open the back door and show them the inside of the car and just how ornate it is. I had this happen with my 'white '79 S&S Victoria. A young woman was asking the usual questions about "arent you afraid to drive this, or have you ever seen spirits"? I opened the back door up and proceed to show her the interior, and the "angel of memory" sculptures that were added to my car by the funeral home that owned it. I told her that the angel of memory kept away all the bad spirts, to which her eyes got huge, then she burst out laughing. She thought it was funny, and as a result of that, brought her family over to see the car. None of them had ever bothered to look inside a hearse, and all admired the great detail that goes into a funeral car. They even asked if it was ok to sit in the back and take photos..

Sure there are idiots out there, but in most cases, its lack of exposure and education. I currently own 8 hearses, 5 of which are at my home. My neighbors, all elderly call on me for help when they need to move something and dont want to use a pick up truck. I honestly have had more negative reactions from them when they noticed a 3 year old Kia in my driveway.Edy
