  • looking a casket for my hearse, does this sound about right

I went online and asked about a casket for my new hearse, and here's what they wrote me back:
we sell damaged caskets for $499 delivered to you.

Looking for quality casket company for wholesale caskets online, funeral homes, discount coffins and buy cheap caskets for sale? For more details visit us.

know this sounds silly, but if you could ask around or direct me to someone who can help me, I'd be very grateful.
Do you folks know where I can find a damaged casket for a prop in my hearse? I'm looking a shell or a damaged one that I can repair. it will be a prop only and not going to be used for any thing else.
    thanks
    Bill

Does this sound right? do you guys know of a cheaper place to look?
like I said to them, I am looking a shell and can do the inside and repair the outside with bondo and paint it myself....I can even do the wood work on a wooden one but they are a little more work.

    thanks,
    Bill

Hell you can get a full casket for that much if you know where to look, undamaged, interior and all.

Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people that knows where to look

I recently contacted a similar company and was quoted about the same price. Depending on damage, type of casket etc I was told between $300 & $500. They're within driving distance from me and was told to I could go to the warehouse and see what they had.

my main problem is here in the bible babaling North Carolina, they just don't have very many places to go... th cops tried to say it was illeagle to hual a casket then after reading the laws, it's only illeagle to hual a body with the proper permits..lol.
most all the ones I found are funeral home rejects and the cheapest so far has been $500, and that's beat up pretty bad. the one I looked at earlier was $990 no damage noticed but it was a tad out of my price range. I'm willing to go to (north?) GA, or even to northern VA..maybe even further for a $200(+ or -) one. I'm waiting to see if a few folks return my calls.
if yall find any places a bit closer then Texas, please let me know. lol.

        thanks

I'll be happy with that idea...but so far I'm having trouble even finding one like that. lol.
On Ebay there is a listing for one with the price around $200. it's in Atlanta, and pick up only. it's kind of short notice and the bidding ends in like 17 hrs.
I found plans for $14.99 "build your own casket". if I don't find one by the end of March, that will be the plan.

I've seen new caskets, undamaged, for $500, so that's pretty high, depending on whether we're talking a stamped steel job with one end crushed in, or a deluxe wooden one with a few scratches.

I've forgotten who, but someone here carried a casket on top of a car and got pulled over three times, and took pictures two of them. Are those still floating around? I would say that you're looking for something in the $200 range, or you could probably build one like Alex did for less than that. He used consecutively larger layers of wood, each one screwed to the previous, to make the top. I liked the effect. Then all you need are corners and rails. Some states allow cremators to remove these before the lovin' goes in the oven, and they resell them cheap, or there are some really cheap new ones floating around, but beware that they may look cheap.

Look on Ebay...they're a little rare, but you might find a casket. If you're in the bible belt, a sad story about your grandmother dying, and singing a chorus of "Leaning on the Everlasting Alms" might help. If you don't know the lyrics, um...well, I don't either.

Thanks Morella... I think the top of the casket might be a little above my skills. I seen a guy making the compound curves and he was warping ..bending..cussing..cutting..and still spent a day to get it tacked togather. it would be great to find one around $200....but this is the bible belt here and most folks seem to shy away from the idea of owning your casket. lol. I don't why. lol.
I would be interested in finding out about the casket and car top story.

It says this 20 gauge steel casket is "$4,495"

Which is about $2400 more than our funeral home would sell a 20 gauge Thacker for. And a thacker is made in the USA and warrantied and not damaged.

I'm sure the site has some deals, but somebody needs to let the site know you can get something alot nicer than the thinnest carbon steel for $4500.

It was Chaser from COTD in '06. He drove from Ga to Mo with a casket on top of a 4-door Chrysler.
