  • Sadly, no Edna.

I went to KY to pick her up, drove 10 hours down. Met the owner, who was as nice as possible. Got the title, paid for her, and left.

About two and a half hours into the trip, we pulled over to check something on my other vehicle. As I pulled back onto the road, the hearse sputtered and died.

Long story short, AAA came out, jumped her twice, she died the minute you put her into drive. Had her towed to Advance Auto at the next exit, and they said it was the alternator.

I couldn't make the trip back, can't afford another 20 hours worth of gas. So I had to make the ultimate decision: I had to give her back.

Called the previous owner, and he said if I could get her back to his house, he'd give me my money back. AAA came back, towed her back to Frankfort, and I got my money back.

I don't know what was wrong with her engine, but whatever it was, I just couldn't afford to fix 10 hours from home.

I was upset, clearly, after all that time and money, for her to just die, but I suspect he hasn't driven her very much, if at all. She had more rust than pictured, and she had paint flaking where water clearly sat for a long time.

She was nice, though, and I loved her for the two hours I had her, and I was sad to see her go.

I'm just going to have to wait and save up for a good, running coach, that's close by. Of course, now someone else is selling a '69 M+M and I'm sorely tempted, but. Unless it's three hours away, I'm gonna wait.

Thanks to all you guys for your help, I will have a hearse soon, I swear!

      Ugh.

In 1988, friends coerced me into going to see Erasure. Shona Lang opened - with one of THE most dreadful acts I've (still) ever seen. Pouring rain, Erasure never managed to get their gear into the building and after a 3+ hour delay, the show was cancelled/rescheduled. My only question was, "Do we have to listen to that again???"

      Colorful analogy drawn.

For you, perhaps. For me, I was 10 hours from home at 6pm on Thursday, before Memorial Day weekend. All the mechanics had gone home for the weekend, and no one in the car with me, despite their car knowledge, knew how to put in an alternator. I could have left her there to be fixed and come back, however, I was not driving home 10 hours and coming back at another time to drive another 20 hours roundtrip. It would have been a waste of gas, and money.

Besides, I'm not even certain that was the issue. The AAA was fairly certain it wasn't. So. It could have been anything.

And it turns out, that '69 M+M that's for sale on the boards IS in NJ. Fantastic. Ugh, I have no money.

That sucks. You should look closer to home for a hearse if you don't have mechanical skills, 10 hours is a long way to drive on the sellers word that it is ready to roll.
Be patient though, you will find a good one.

I have no problem fixing her engine. He just didn't drive her as much as he said, clearly she sat outside somewhere for a while.

But closer to home is better, and I want to at least have a garage for her, because life under a tarp is no life at all!

So yeah, I'm gonna wait, and pay more for a better one.

Don't know what else to say except... I'm sorry for your loss

The best of luck finding another one, but at least you're in one of the best states for it considering how many hardcore halloween freaks live there.

How far are you from Hershey? You ought to be able to find anything you are looking for at the swap meet they have there.

That sucks that you weren't able to get it, but this could be a very useful thing for you.

Having owned a shitload of hearses over the years, you develop a remarkable ability to work on them and troubleshoot them, this only comes with practice and experience. So maybe your first one should be local and get to learn them as time goes on.

I might have one in NJ, we'll see. At least I live 2 and a half hours, and if she dies, I can have someone come get me.

Too bad you don't live ONE state west! I have 2 hearses & can't seem to meet anyone with a passion for hearses & ambulances... not even an interest in them at all actually. Went to a somewhat local show today (55 miles away) with the S&S and would have loved to have the M-M there too... but R U INJURED showed up with his '57 GMC ambulance so we parked together & were a HUGE hit! It surprised me just how many people came up to the hearse & asked questions, looked it over good, & took pictures galore... even with the casket partially pulled out of the back! Todd's ambulance drew alot of attention too. It's funny when you meet a lady who seems interested in you... then runs like hell when she learns about the hearses. Sorry your quest for that coach went south... you were so excited about it. Look at it this way, it happened for a reason & wasn't meant to be, but you learned alot in the process & will be more careful on your next selection.

                          Are you hitting one me?

I love hearses. Anything funky and quirky and kitschy and creepy, I'm down for.

Ohio isn't that far from me! Kentucky was just waaaaay too far for what turned out to be a pointless trip. Sigh!

LOL sorry if that came across strong. I was just thinking i'd love to be with a woman like you who has a passion for hearses after reading all your posts & seeing your excitement. If that's you in your avitar you're very cute (assuming you're not green LOL) and seem to be a nice lady whose on a quest for her dream & willing to go for it, I admire that. For years station wagons were in the blood because "the ex" knew of my passion for hearses & always said if I bought one i'd ride in it ONCE... to my own funeral 'cause she'd kill me & was very adimate about not having one ever. So hotrod station wagons kinda done up as hearses for Halloween was my only resort. That's the past though... obviously. Again i'm sorry for kinda thinking out loud there...

Haha. No, that's not me; that's the receptionist from Beetlejuice! You know, the beauty queen who slit her wrists? But I always thought she was pretty.

Ugh, ex's. They suck. And quite frankly, if someone told me that I couldn't have a hearse or any car because they didn't like it, pffft. I'd be single so fast, their head would spin.

People don't know how much hearses are loved; people are always shocked to learn of the clubs and such that are devoted to the rides of the dead.

What do silly ex-girlfriends know? Nothing, I tell you!

Also, feel free to think out loud around me any day.
