I am a professional Race Car Driver (Drag Racing) and I want to build a Pro Mod Hearse I know another guy did it out of a 1959 (See attached picture) His however does not have the rear two doors and it's all fiberglass with a wild paint job, I want to build a 1700HP ALL STEEL with the two second doors with a all black with vinyl top stock look , Any suggestions on another year to use other than the 1959 I dont want to do the same one (Unless you all think that the 1959 is the best year?)

    Thanks.

Jason from Wizard Racing has built an incredible machine with his '59 Caddy Hearse in the "Nitro Coupe" class as part of the Super Chevy Circuit... The car is done for this season as he hit the wall in Atlanta a few weeks ago...

Pick the year you like the looks of, I think the '67 era would look killer, but that is just my opinion...

Good luck, and keep us posted with your progress...

if you are going all steel i would go with mid to late 70's or later. that way body panels are a hell of alot easier to get ahold of.

I am new to this whole Hearse thing, any posting of pictures would be helpful, what do you guys think of the 1953 pontiac hearse (See rough mock up pic attached)

Just remember pre-1977, this cars are very heavy. My 1973 weighs around 6,300#.

I will literally only use the sheet metal shell, the frame, engine etc. will be junked. There will be a 200+ MPH tube chassis built under the steel shell

1'd go for 1977 or later. You'd have a four door hearse, but shorter and lighter to give you a little edge on speed. Even if you junk the running gear, you'd still have a slightly smaller hearse, and even with the new tube frame, there would still be less weight for your powerplant to push around..

that '53 poncho is pretty slick!

For raw 'evil' looking a '67 superior, no questions in my opinion.

                    yep 67 for sure!

superior would look evil and fast, a MM has less dramatic roofline and looks more like an everyday working class coach back in the day... if that makes ANY sense at all

A 1967 Superior... has the sinister looking sloped roof:

My 1967 Miller-Meteor has a much more "boxy" look:

But the '67 has the best looking grill & overall mean look no matter what coachbuilder made it!

OK, I bought the 1953 Pontiac Hearse, I need a great name for it as it will hopefully become a famous drag car. A name something in the vain of "Grave Digger" or "Undertaker" any suggestions out there?
