What was the standard size engine in a 59 Cadi Superior? What is the funky thing on top of the dash that points toward the windshield?

  • #2
Engine was a 390 Cad from at least 59 to 63. No other size available for Cads those years... The thing pointed at the windshield is an "autotronic eye"... Automatic headlights / dimmer...

What DOES it have? Not a clue. It started life with a 250BHP 331 Cad in it...

Yes it has a 331, it barely pulls that big ass body around. It is old and tired. I am about to put a 350 in it. I just got one fuel injected and one not fuel injected. Which way do you think I should go?

Properly done, fuel injection is the way to go. But it usually requires an assload more wiring, sensors, computer, etc... For simplicity's sake, the carbed engine will take a lot less to adapt, and have less to break... Besides, how many "new" cars do you see on the side of the road as you trundle your dinosaur by?

DEFINITELY go with the carbureted 350! They are as reliable as they come and easy to work on with plenty of power. If you have a tuned port fuel injection 350 the damn wiring harness kit alone to make it run is over $700 and we aren't even to the fuel pump/system yet! Stick with simple & reliable & leave the technology in newer stuff where it belongs

The carbureted 350 is reliable and easy to work on, but the TBI model will get you considerably better gas mileage. It's all a matter of priorities.

just be carefull if you have someone put it in. I had a 455 (buick) put in my 55. There was no room for the mechanical fan. The guy put one electric fan on the radiator , and one on the inside of the grill. Damn thing still overheats if it idols to long. he also put in a smaller radiator. That dosent help either. I don't know if the 350 takes up less space then the 455, but be carefull. The drive shafts will also need to be welded together to work off your 55 rear end. (you will also need the tranny from the new moter.

I put a 455 olds in my 55 olds it fit nice but its close to the steering box but does not hit. I also had a big custom aluminum radiator made for it and i can idle for as long as i want and no problems with it. also installed a clutch fan on it too.
