  • Driving your antique car is now illegal!

Not a fan of the gov at all but they are getting rediculous. Several weeks ago I got a child restraint ticket for my 3 year old. He was in his car seat and wearing his seat belt but the shoulder strap was under his armrest like the lap belt. That is how the instructions on the seat read. The cop said the shoulder restaint was not to be used so I got a ticket. I went to court and lost $50. I felt it was bullshit and still do!

Now I am completely fucked by a stupid system whose only goal is to rape you of every dime you make. Now this imagine if you will, you are driving your 60 Flx ambulance minding your own business, not speeding, not weaving or running any emergency equiptment. Just out enjoying some cool weather in a classic ambulance with a big smile and a hard on. Just a 20 minute drive to stretch her legs every month or so. Then you get a police tail for about 5 miles then he hits his lights pulls you over and writes you EIGHT tickets, completely fucking your month up. I was very polite and did not argue but pointed out why I felt the tickets were out of line. The cop was an arrogant dick two weeks out of the police academy who frankly could give a shit less. Do they not have anything better to do!

failure to use safety belt $15

    Car never had any!

    Failure to use signal $120

My car does not have any nor did it ever!

    Color of lighting equiptment $70

My red emergency lights, they were not on and they are not even working right now!

Illegal equiptment siren, bell or whistle. $550

It was not on! and it is a fucking ambulance!

Improper use of licence plate $175

I have a restored 1960 Ohio tag on the front and rear bumpers and my current tag in the back window. It is illegal to have two different tags and illegal to have an expired tag on the vehicle.

improper display of licence plates $100

My Georgia tag was in the rear window and it must be in the tag mount.

    Exsaust system requirments $70

My muffler is bad and the car is loud but no louder than one with glasspacks. There is still a full exsaust system!

    Broken windshield $70

Yes it is broken, I agree with this ticket.

For a grand total of $1170 plus convenience fees! I have talked to a lawyer friend of mine and he will agree you are guilty when you walk in court and local governments are getting desperate for money. He said this is getting very common. Cops are writing 10X the tickets they were 6 months ago and a lot of the tickets are set ups and fraudulent but they know 95% of the people who get them pay with out question. Lawyer fees will be almost as much as the tickets and about the only time a lawyer is practicle is for a DUI or felony where jail time is possible. So it is best to represent myself and hope for a sympathetic judge with the risk of paying more or suck it up use my rent and food money to pay the fines and next time shoot the cop in the face and push his corpse into traffic. I seriously want to kill this motherfucker. I won't do anything wrong here but if I saw someone beating a cop on the side of the road I won't help the bastard. Fuck him. I will watch with a smile on my face. Next time I see a cops funeral on TV I will drink a beer and cheer as another scum bag takes a dirt nap. I don't recomend pulling a Brian Nickles courtroom shooting but I now understand his point of view.

I believe you can run period-correct plates and keep your "official" plate in your glove box or under your seat in some states. I'm pretty sure they have to be the same state though. It's been a while since I've done it, but if I remember right you get an "antique" plate for your vehicle, then they somehow note that you are running vintage plates on the vehicle. You MUST have the real plate with you though if you get pulled over.

Todd, in Ohio you can run Ohio tags that reflect the year the car was built (they used to issue new tags every year that said across the top "OHIO '71" for example) but you MUST have Ohio Historical Vehicle tags issued & have 1 of them inside the car accessable for the cops to see if they ask. You can't mix states either, like run Georgia 1971 plates on a car titled in Ohio.
As for the seat belt ticket, you can't be cited for not using equipment your car never had... unless yoyu've added belts & choose not to wear them. Turn signals... just like a bike, must use hand signals if your vehicle didn't have them. Emergency lights, you can beat that one since they weren't on, same goes for the siren.
They gotcha on the turn signal, cracked windshield, ficticious tags, & bad exhaust... unless traffic laws are extremely different where you got busted... sorry man

Law enforcement quote is as follows "Ignorance of the LAW is no excuse" . this really brings up a good point... we should all become familiar with the laws of our resident state as far as our coaches go... Take it from me.. I have had my hands on the hoods of state police cruisers from 5 different states and the only thing in common was that they were all pretty warm.... (Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, North Dakota)... Oh shit forgot Missouri, make that 6, only need Nebraska and South Dakota to round out my collection..Maybe not...and just an added note...Never been arrested..but profiled many times.....

Henry county. I talked to a friend who has a connection with them and he said once the ticket is on paper they can't do anything about it. It has been processed and is in the system. The only way to get out of a ticket is before he writes one.

He said I might beat the seatbelt ticket since the car was never equipted but I would have to do it in court, that is not the one I am worried about anyway. He said all the others are valid and he had probable cause to stop me. He said get a lawyer and hope for the best. He also told me I may have to appear in court for the siren and emergency lights. They are very strict on those because of people impersonating police officers. I think this is abuse of the law and not the way the law was meant to be inforced.

Another thing he said which worries me is that a car like mine in may only be legal for parade use other wise it can not be driven on the road. The reason is the emergency equiptment. You can get light covers and out of service signs but then you would have to get a permit for the siren and emergency horns which is not always easy. They don't just hand them out from what he said. And he said with out the permit the car must be on a trailor if on a public road. He also told me that with all the emergency equiptment on the car the cop could have impounded it, and I would have had a hard time getting it back! I thought this was a free country. If they they enforce every single law in the books you could not sneeze with out jail time. They win. You won't see the ambulance on the road anymore. I don't need some cop on his high horse impounding my baby.

Not trying to be dramatic but how much longer until we start to revolt and riot in the streets. People will only tolerate so much from the gov and many are starting to wake up and see whats going on around them.

Been waiting on that to start for a long time.

I thought you could have the sirens and lights on an antique vehicle if it was originally equipped that way, like an ambulance or fire engine????
You may want to get covers for the lights just to avoid this in the future and just take them off for parades or shows.

Now this is just from an Oklahoma point of view, but it sounds to me like he was "stacking" tickets which is illegal as hell in Oklahoma and would have all the tickets dissmissed. Might be an angle to check out!

Right now I am just going to be patient. My lawyer friend recomended I talk to someone who specializes in traffic issues. I will do that and see what happens. I do know I can't afford to roll over and pay all this money out. I don't shit hundred dollar bills.

I took 8 similar traffic citations at once on Nov 3. Couldn't even tell you how much $$$ combined I was looking at but do recall an additional 18 months total sentence being max. 5 court appearances (after continuances) in 4 months netted a single $150 fine (+ court costs). That you received so many citations is a GOOD thing, trust me. Judges aren't stupid.

                      Police are.

Those roof "Lights" are just decoration until they are turned on and emitting "Light". You can put anything you want on your car color wise, just so long as it is not Illuminated. I used to run red and blue deck lights in my old DPS cars we bought from the auctions. Most of them still had the siren in the bumper because they were too hard to remove. I've been harassed by the local police here in AZ and even went to court with pictures to prove the lights were decoration only. Your couch is a Preserved "Historical" Vehicle. Fight that BS citation in the very least.

Another thing is if you can, out seat belts in it before you go to court. Take pictures of the install to show the Judge. That goes a long way in telling him your not just some screw off that can be squeezed for money.

Majority of all traffic laws are classified as a "local ordinance". Reason you "thought" you can have the original equipment on a car is because in Gwinnett, Walton, and many others............you can. When you said Henry County I both cringed and chuckled. I have had my run ins with those dumbfucks myself on several occasions. Henry county is trying like hell to make themselves one of those " demolition man" types of societies. They have been for years. Where everything is in a straight line cookie cutter perfect (to them) kind of place.

In Gwinnett, you can have any lights/sirens anything else you want so long as it is original equipment. Seat belts ARE required (wether factory or not) ONLY in the case where a child or minor is involved. If you are over the age of 18 and driving a car that did not have factory seat belts, you are safe. Case in point with my T-Bird. It has factory front seat belts but none in the rear. Normally by law, my kids would have to ride in the back. But legally they can ride in the front seat due to the fact that there are seatbelts, and the car did NOT come with an inflatable restraint system.

I am sorry to hear this, it is blatantly retarded. You just need to stay the fuck out of Henry County.

I live in Michigan. I can pretty much get away with whatever I want, original equipment or not.

Also you can run your lights as long as you're parked (and possibly not on a city street but privet lots) since it's a moving violation (at least that's how it works here).
