Chopping a top requires a great deal of skill & planning. Your biggest obstacle will be the glass. Look around on the 'net for pix of how to chop a top so you know what you're getting into, as it's not a straight drop. Once you cut a section out of your pillars to bring the top down, you have to split & stretch the roof. Actually if your hearse has a fiberglass roof it would be easier to chop in theory. Also remember when you chop a top, all the door glass window frames get the same chopped treatment. This takes alot of time, skill, and patience, and you have 5 doors to re-fit. Expense will depend on how much you can do yourself vs. paying someone else to do it for you. I don't have any pix of an '80's model coach chopped to show you what it would look like done. This however is something i'd love to attempt someday too!
Its is alot of work, even if it has a fiberglass roof. If it was cheap or easy everyone would do it. I think it would look great, if you cannot do it and you have someone do it, make sure they know what they are doing, If they dont, You could just drive it to the junk yard. Like dwayne said the glass work could cost you as much as the metal work on the car.
I dont think I could afford it. I was just dreaming.lol. I love the kargoyle with the chopped top. Im having trouble where I live even finding a decent set of wheels.
