  • Would it be wrong to.....

Put a sunroof in a coach? If it isn't out of the question. Just how hard would it be to do? Seeing how the roof differs from a reg. car.

on a 1977 or newer one no, cut it up all you want.
On a 1976 or older one I would call you ugly names.

OK well I don't think my first coach will be any older than an 80. Would trying to put T-tops in be out of the question or just to much work?

Well, if you have to ask... then probably yes it would be too much trouble.

I would concur with LMS's opinion, but i would add the caveat that you shouldn't do it if you don't either have the skills to do it yourself or the cash to have a shop do it.

Even on an 80's model, i would hate for you to cut a giant hole in the roof only to realize you aren't able to finish the project with a professional look. T-tops especially seem like it would be more work than a normal sun roof.

But in terms of principle, i don't think it would be wrong as long as it was done in a professional and nice looking manner (meaning don't just cut a hole in the roof and screw some plexiglass down over it).

Any add on sun roof just looks cheesy to me. Doesn't have that factory look.

I say do as you please! The preference is just to make it look good so it doesn't look like some redneck mobile home on wheels.

I have no idea what Im going to do to my coach when I get one. Just trying to get some ideas. I camp out alot and do alot of canoeing genral outdoors kinda stuff . I think Im going to go rat rod when I do get one. I promise I wont get any thing older than a 80. I do plan on a roof rack to haul my canoe. So I think a sun roof would be better with the rite amount of clearance on the rack.

OK I realize what I just said may make it sound like Im going to screw it up. But I did go to college for custom auto body and apolstry. I want a coach that I can still take to a show but still be useful to my family and me. I dont know if I made my case sound any better. But thats my plans for when I find the coach Im lookin for.

I have seen sunroofs done, most are hideous and you will never have them not leak. T-top's you have to be off in the head. The engineering in the roof does provide some lateral support between the A and B pillars. Not much, but enough that once you run some the doors will constantly sag and bind at the B pillar. Length + weight = flex. In order to do something of this nature, you better reinforce the frame between the A and B.

Well with a well modified latter rack and the correct clearance to remove the t-tops. that could be an option .

The fine startings of a yard sale on a roof. Trust me, you don't want to go there.

Ladder rack always means one thing in the procar groups. The inevitable is always going to happen.

80's and newer vehicles don't wear the "rat rod" image well.

Just remember, a sunroof will lower a coach's value to the vampire community.

If I still had my '82 Buick I know EXACTLY what I would do with it.
