The latest problem is with the no charge light staying lit. I first noticed the no charge light was very dim at night. I checked the belts and found one belt was loose and tightened it a few weeks ago. That seemed to solve the problem.
Tonight we took 2 Hearses and went off, good thing we did. I stopped and heard the blower for the fan still running. I flipped the switch to econ and it stopped. As I got out the car I thought i saw a red light but didn't think much of it. When i got back to the car it wouldn't start. Used the other Hearse to jump off and it started right up. Drove it about 10 miles to get home and then I noticed the crazy problem in the driveway.
With the key off, it has the no charge light on dim and the fan motor is running. If I flip the switch on the AC control to low the light comes on brighter. The car had enough juice to restart. The "no charge" light goes out with the car running. I did a search on the cadillac forum and found a similar problem that pointed to the alternator having 1 diode bad out of 3. I unplugged the alternator and the "no charge" light as well as the blower motor turned off. The car sat for about 1-1/2 hrs before I messed with the alternator and it was still very hot. Someone had posted that "bad diodes in alternator, which allows feedback from the battery through the alternator and back to whatever ground is available" and since the blower motor is the first its usually the one to run.
Tomorrow I'm gonna replace the alt. and see if it solves this crazy problem after doing a quick test. The only thing good is that the other guy replaced the alt and it solved the problem he had. Hopefully thats all it is and this turns out to be another story on this board to help someone else in the future.
