  • 59' Ambulance drivers side rear upper doors and fin chrome

    Hello all,

I am currently looking for the upper door section for the rear driver's side door of my 1959 Cadillac Miller Meteor. I am also looking for all of the fin chrome as well.

    Thank you,
    Kris

You can't really see it in the picture, but I also need the trim that extends from the fin trim.

        I view things differently.

When missing a crucial part, itemize a thorough cost to have that item fabricated from scratch. Use that amount as a baseline. If you can find a nice piece for 3/4 fabrication costs - you're doing well. For 1/2 fabrication costs? You stole it.

I'm headed 300 miles midweek to a property where this limo sits:

Although barely visible, the driver's rear door is still there. Provide enough measurements beforehand and I'll cross reference to see how close of a fit it is.

Additionally, I'll have windshield stainless and fin trim priced out for you by week's end. Too much happening to get to it sooner.

Learn something new every day. Had no idea '59 fins came in varying heights. Professional cars had the highest to optically offset the overall length.

I'd like a picture of your fins to establish precisely which pieces you're missing accompanied by a measurement from the center of the taillight pod to the top of the fin.

Yes. Not only procars but '59 fin heights and lengths actually vary between passenger car models as well. (Multiple lengths coincidentally holds true on '57 and '58 as I've already measured those first hand.) I'll take the word of my source for the time being that owns over 100 '59s...

Fin height at the back: 15" long
Top of the fin to the first turn: 27" long
Top of the fin after the first turn to the molding separation line: 35"
Width of the fin at the first turn: 12"

Measured numerous '59 passenger cars, as there was no '59 commercial chassis here. Notes:

No large difference in fin heights - 3/8", although 1" on a limo is claimed.

Lengths are clearly one of two - either from a coupe/convertible or a sedan. Coupe is a full 6" longer to the first turn. Here is the difference:

Coupe trim is used on coaches. Sedan trim outsurvives coupe trim 7-1 - meaning coupe trim is more $$$. A 'sweetie pie' goes for $150; good driver quality, $125; one with a couple dings or rock pecks that is workable stainless (not stretched or contorted) in the $80-85 range. I saw no $150 pieces in stock, they're long gone having been used on high end convertibles.

Since I still don't know with certainty what other fin trim pieces you may be missing, I didn't ask further. You have the number and can do so.
