I would dissagree with such a comparison. I don't feel it's anywhere near the same. Ownership of a piece of property doesn't afford one the same rights for service in this matter (and it would be a slippery slope to be on) - one cannot change their race or gender - but the type of car one chooses to drive is a choice.
I would say one way to get more information on this would be to consult a lawyer that specializes in such a field. Then and there one would find out the legality issues. Again, I find the actions of this establishment in poor taste, but I would still defend their right to make the decision. (dumb though it may be).
Heck, if it happened to me, I'd take an ad out in the paper, with my car parked in front of said establishment and a statement on why I was refused service. Post that on the internet and everywhere else I could reach.
