I don't know what is changing in the world of car shows, but apparently hearses are not cars, or so I'm told. This is what has happened 2 weeks in a row:
Saturday, March 8th I entered my hearse in a car show at a church that is run by born again bikers. The church goers had no problem with me bring the hearse & the Cremator. But one of the other show participants left. I over heard him state, "There is no way I'm staying here if that is here, fuck this!" He packed up his mustang & left. Now this car show had a non-refundable $25 entrance fee, so he left & lost his $25. I thought nothing of this & figured one less person to compete against, which I guessed worked out since I got second in my class.
Then on Saturday, March 15th, 2 other hearses & I plus an ambulance were at charity car show for Prostate Awareness. (Insert jokes here). To enter this car show it was a non-refundable $5 fee & $25 day of show (if not preregistered). There were over 2000 cars there, the event was 2 blocks wide & 2 miles long & included cruising in the evening & night hours of this 10 event.
Everybody was assigned parking lots to setup & display there rides. Our parking lot was empty except for a few rat rods & a couple of TV/Movie car replicas. The security for the event & even the event coordinators came up & told us that no one was parking here & paying $25-$50 extra to be moved away from the hearses. They said that the other drivers found it offensive that hearses are allowed to participate in car shows since they are not real cars. WTF!!
The event coordinators actually loved us there because we were generating them more money by having people paying not to be in there designated lot.
While cruising that night, we got as many jeers as cheers. I know some people find hearses offensive, that's fine, that's there opinion. But only in the last month have I experienced this were booing & requests to have us removed from events. Being told that it's morbid to own & drive one outside of the funeral industry & I should seek professional help. I even had a lady say; "it's sad that I need to buy something like that to get noticed, if I was just a religious person with good values, people would appreciate me for who I am, not rebelling with what I drive."
I have 2 more car shows this month, one hosted by a grocery store, one by a church, so I guess I'll see what happens at the next 2 shows on March 28th & 29th.
Anybody have similar confrontations?
