There was a company that used to put out Johnny Lightning cars with those wheels on them as limted editions. I think it was called Fullgrid or Full Grid Collectibles, but I'm not 100% sure. I'd have to dig up a picture (if I still have it) and check. I remeber buying a set of six car from them, just to get a 1996 Impala SS with those wheels on it for my collection.
'10 Hot Wheels have been out for almost 2 months already. First Treasure Hunt released for '10 (Classic Packard) comes in 995DEL, 995DFL, and 995DFA case codes. Ecto is NOT in these.
2nd TH release (Old Number 5) first started showing on eBay 3+ weeks ago. I haven't personally found any of these yet and don't know the case codes. However, since Ectos just started turning up on eBay this past weekend, safe to assume they are NOT in those cases as well. At least, Ecto will not be in the first couple case codes of Old Number 5.
Perhaps most important? Different parts of the country receive merchandise at different times! There could easily be a month lag from when HW first come out to when they arrive in your neck of the woods - so don't get discouraged.
When I finally do find them, I'll pass on the case codes, along with how many come per box of 72. My guess is 2.
I was worried this might be the problem. Seems like the stores here are always last to get any new release hot wheels or johnny lightnings.
Did yall see this mystery car
COFFIN HOT ROD!!!!
The top corner on the box says 1-24 '10
Beware there are different cars in these boxes. The cool part is they started putting a small hole in the rear of the package so you can see a piece of the car. I snagged 3 of these yesterday.
As I round the corner of the first store, fresh Hot Wheels cases were spotted - 'cept not the ones I previously mentioned or anticipated:
These are sidekick cases and do not have the E designation (like 995EEV). In them are vertical cardboard displays that hang near aisle endcaps.
Here is a closeup of the box's printing:
Larry is correct, btw. There is only one Ecto per box of 72. Although I neglected to take a pic of the display itself (was working *really* fast), there are (pretty certain) 3 rows across x 6 rows down. Each compartment holds 4 cars. Ecto is CONSISTENTLY in the bottom middle slot - unless the case happens to hold a $uper Trea$ure Hunt$ Old Number 5. When that happens, Ecto is in the 2nd row down, 2nd or 3rd compartment. Follow that..?
Detail and proportions are actually quite good!
Check out the length when compared to the Matchbox '63 Ambulance. Stock and customized '53 Custom Cadillacs are bookends:
Can hardly wait to start customizing some Ectos - and turn them BACK into hearses for a change!
Last night I thought to snag a pic, so here is a visual for my previous description (TH = Treasure Hunt, STH = Super Treasure Hunts; only one out of roughly 15-20 cases contains a Super.):
This should help those of you looking for the boxes. Good luck!
Ground the 4 corner roof lights off the casting and began filling holes.
Accurately arching the roof shape has taken hours and it still isn't perfect~
Also smoothed both rear doors and shaved the second set of door handles on the flower car. The further these progress, the more ideas I have for others...
