cool deal, Jeff. since you will be on the outside corner, you can have that whole corner scene space to set up your vodou altar and stuff. which is actually a huge space. from the corner of the display to the nose of your car will be about 10 feet, then the 20 foot length of the display, and all that space in the middle of the triangle. and, like scott said, show the car however you want. you know it's best features to show off (and what needs to be hidden).

i need to get with Kal to see what they need for judging. last time we did this back in '04 at least one door needed to be propped open for judging. i'm hoping the rear side doors (or back doors) will be sufficient since it will look kinda silly if we have to have one of the front doors open too. i'll get back with y'all on that.

Ya know I'll have to be different and have both doors open, not to mention Somebody else with suicide doors.

Well, yeah, it makes sense for u to have both doors open ray (and kellie too). But the rest of us don't really need to do that unless we want too, or the judges tell us to.

Lorcin, just saw this and thought I'd pop up. Didn't read through too far since I'm heading to bed. Could you have a bad ignition switch? Sounds just liek what I've seen on a few cars over the years, especially with older cars, or folks who have lots of stuff on their key ring. Try starting the car, and once it's running, just wiggle the key in the ignition, or the key itself.
Just a suggestion, since it sounds like you've got power in all the right places. Good luck!

Thanks for the input, pt. I'll tell him. Last night he was messing with the car and starting to think it's the carb... he'll get it figured out.

On another note... I drew up a new display schematic with the changes. I need to scan it in and post it up. Hopefully tonight.

creepypt i was thinking about this last night and just tried it, its definately bad. not sure which part if its the keyed switch or the actual ign switch, either way im replacing both and solving another problem in the column. ill explain more in my other post later, ray you may also want to consider my findings.

Did Ya run the wire like I posted? If it runs, then look at the ignition and switch like You said. If it runs it will eliminate the carb also. If Ya hook it up direct like the hot rods, and it still don't run don't waste time or $$$ on that other stuff.

                        UPDATE!!

so we got to go see Kal last night and pick his brain (pun intended) and here's what we got:

                        1. We can move in any time after 6pm Wednesday. the earlier the better, so we need to decide a time and place to meet (Tony's??) to caravan over there together. I figure Jeff and Ray will probably just want to meet us there and we'll have to let them know what time.

                        2. We can work on our display anytime we want between 10am-10pm Thursday and 10am-4pm Friday.

                        3. For judging, you get points for clean engines and fancy stuff under the hood. You can leave your hood closed and not get any points, but if you have a nice detailed engine bay, you can pop your hood (even just a few inches) and get points. we will probably leave the hoods closed on our hearses. same goes for door jambs. the judges like to have at least one door open and check for clean door jambs. Kal said the rear door should be sufficient, but since many of us will be opening our side doors too, it would help to just wipe down your door jambs so you don't lose points there. whatever you don't want the judges to see, just keep it closed (you may lose points, but i personally would rather lose points than flaunt a dirty engine lollz).

                        4. Judging can start anytime Friday and go through Sunday afternoon (even after the show is closed to the public) so we need to be "on" the whole time. each car will be judged individually as well as the club display being judged as a whole. we will probably just be competing against each other and the Voodoo AFL hearse. i don't give a hoot if i win anything individually, but i do wanna go after that club award WOOT!

                        5. Club displays are judged on creativity, theme, and having a power outlet is a bonus he said. so i think we got this in the bag. he said one of the highlights of the Ford display this year is to have a dummy underneath one of the cars with a strobe light to look like he's welding. if that's all they got, i'm feeling pretty good. we are gonna bring the rain!!

                        now on to display stuff...

                        6. right next to our zombie display will be a mustang display. lololololololololololololololol. (those horse heads may just be freaking perfect!) they are not part of the ford club display, but they are another club and they put out the money for a banner that everyone will see from the entrance (found out about the banners just last night and this is something maybe we can do for next year cuz you have to go thru convention center and it costs $1100!). but they will have a big "SNAKEPIT" banner and probably a pretty kick ass display if they had $1100 to put towards a banner. so we may really have some competition there. good news is their banner may draw people over there and there will see us! WOOT!

also of note, catty corner from us will be a Saints display, and next to the zombie display on the 20' side will be some kind of judge with two cars and a Transformers Camaro. nothing is set yet to be in the 20X20 next to the horror display, but a firetruck will be behind it and the rat rods will be on the other side.

                        7. we can have a fog machine, but we can't go overboard with it. and i'm not sure if we'll even be able to run it if we only have one 15amp outlet. sooo.... we'll have to decide what to do there.

                        8. we can't have rats. sorry, Kirk and Shannon. no live animals that have probability of escape are allowed because one year someone had a parakeet and it got out and everyone was freaked. especially those guys that have TONS of money in those show cars. i think that bird would've died if it would have pooped on someone's paint. lollz.

                        9. he has to ask about having actors and doing some kind of performances. he said with comicon being next door, it will work in our favor, but he needs to run it by the guy who oversees things to make sure it's okay. we are kind of near one of the kiddie stages where spongebob and stuff will be, so he gave me the times of those performances so we can work around that for our own stuff. i'm thinking we will be able to do it, but he's just gotta make sure.

                        10. he reminded us that this is a family event, and we assured him that we aren't out to scare little children (...much... lollz). so we need to keep that in mind if we want to win the club award. this is just my opinion (but i've done a lot of shows...) and the guys that are judging are probably ol' skoolers that we are gonna have to win over and show them that hearses get lots of attention and we are just having fun and being creative. we aren't a bunch of punks out to make fun of people's dead relatives or anything like that.

so i think we are looking good so far. next post is my list of stuff from our driver's meeting Sunday...

Scott/Selena: animated lighting set with speakers, TallMan, casket, bier, kneeler, chairs, parlor sign, columns with flowers, minion (all for Phantasm scene), talking butler, talking funeral director, talking grim reaper, Dr. Satan with operating table, moaning zombie, remote control zombie, zombie signs, skulls, body parts, 2 body bags with bodies, candleabra, small casket with green light, orange/white barrel, orange/white barricade, large reaper with glowing red eyes, fences for both displays (still need boundary/tape for horror side)

                          WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT MAKING/ADDING/BRINGING

                          spanish moss-Candi
                          poster for chrome standing sign-Kellie
                          broken baseball bat-Scott
                          empty tool chest-Tony
                          concrete drill bit-Tony
                          horse heads-Scott
                          fake intestines-Kirk
                          body parts-Tony, Scott, Kirk
                          old rusty tools-Kirk, Scott, Tony

                          spare tires-Scott
55 gal clear garbage bags for body parts-Scott
                          blood paint-Tony
                          chainsaw-Scott
                          nerf guns-Kirk
paint suits & masks-Tony and Scott
                          orange fence-Scott
                          actors-Kirk
                          zombie stuff-Kirk
horror display border-??? (we have the tombstones and PVC bases, we need either tape or lights or something to make the actual border)

for Ray and Jeff, after talking it out, we decided to make the zombie scene a kind of parody/poke at the Ford club since we are gunning for them. and since they are doing a garage display, we are doing a "zombie garage" display. so that's why you see a lot of car parts/tools. Ray, if you have any spare hearse parts (or even just other car parts) laying around you could bring those too. the rustier and funkier, the better. we may be bring an old door of the white hearse, old wheels and stuff like that (tools too). and if it looks like it would make a good zombie weapon, bring that too.

ok that's all the notes i have written down from the meeting. did i miss anything? any questions?

(oh and Shannon don't feel left out... i was too lazy to write Kirk & Shannon for eveything y'all were bringing, so i just wrote Kirk with Shannon being understood. i did the same thing for Scott & Selena. but you can use this opportunity to mess with him and tell him he's responsible for everything and you get off scott free. lollz.)

more stuff keeps coming to me, i have a few more ideas that im leaning towards attempting to make happen. for the horror side and zombie side. it kinda seemed like we were a bit more focused on the zombie side, but the horror/ voodoo side is going to have some cool things going on. now just to remember to gather it all together and pack it in the Hearses. also im thinking a trip to gordon biersch is a must for a drink or 2.
