Thanks. That,s exactly the reason my wife and i bought our housecar was because we thought it was cool and unique. We have had more fun and positive reactions from it than any of the street rods or hearse that we own or have owned.
That being said would i like to have to have an original 53 pontiac combo or 56 cadillac flower car?Absolutely! Would i ever cut one up to make a house car? Absolutely not! These were built or converted long ago and are what they are and how many do you see period let alone one that is still in good shape and used and enjoyed like our 53 is?

An astute lurker here (thanks again) forwarded these:

Gent in the pic built this out of a Miller Meteor in the '70s. It still exists.

It's a freakin crime, and i am amazed at how many of them were converted.
They all seem to be made out of the 50's and early 60's car's.
had to have been some weird trendy thing going on in the 70's
                i don't get it

so its a bad idea to get crazy with this?
                    yellowrust.jpg

The rear of the car is mold and rot
The rear half of the top is mush no patching here
The front not too bad I am having a hard time with scraping it
Damn thing runs and drives nice
Have a 74 parts car for quarters

Was thinking of cutting behind the crown and staying with the Superior molding line rear door glass gone.
And making a canvas boat top kinda thing to keep it dry.
I think I can save the floor and have rear stuff from other parts cars to so something..
so it can never be what it was soooooooo why not

                    what you all think ??

OH NOES! THE VINYL EATED IT!!!

Seriously though, I am not a big fan of cutting the tops off of hearses, but the top you have is wasted. If you don't have a replacement waiting in the wings, do as you please with it. My opinion is to cut it right behind the crown and follow the horizontal chrome moulding to the back. If you have access to some stainless or aluminum, make it a "flower car" rear... I'm sure Atti could PhotoShop a pic for you Or do a rollcage frame to stretch the canvas top over...

Can and will Photoshop a rendering. It'll have to wait a couple days though. I'm literally on my way out the door for a Cadillac road trip!

I was thinking of doing the same thing on the superior, just in front of the partition to behind the windshield where the rot lies. Was thinking of a snap-on vinyl cover(like a tonneau cover for a truck) for inclement weather. But is the frame strong enough to handle something like that?
